Do majority of PTC voters want annexing?

Thursday night the Peachtree City City Council lifted the annexation moratorium that has been in place since 1997. Mayor Bob Lenox was quoted as saying, “ I'll make a bold statement that no one knows as much as I do about Peachtree City.“

How pompous can you get? There are thousands of residents who may feel differently. So I have a few questions for Mayor Lenox.

• How many additional police will be needed due to annexation?

• How much additional water per day and sewage treatment will be required?

• How many additional school classrooms, teachers and administrators, school buildings and maintenance crews will be required?

• Is our current fire department capable of handling the annexation with their current budget?

• How many additional vehicles per day will be using our roads?

• When will this all stop? (or it least slowdown)

• Who will pay for all of this?

While the mayor may have a great concern regarding the use of this land if Peachtree City does not annex it, I do not believe that the majority of the voters want to pay to develop this land. This is exactly what this is.

This is an additional cost to each and every taxpayer in Peachtree City. Whether it is when a police officer not available due to shortage of help, we stay on water restrictions forever, the endless arguing over how to budget for schools, police, fire and other infrastructure necessary, etc. Our quality of life will be affected.

While the tax digest will increase, I do not believe that it will be enough to pay all the expenses forthcoming from this annexation.

While many people may just take it for granted, I know many who won't. These voters will remember in the next election. As I said in a previous letter, this will not be soon enough.
