and Fayette's gas prices keep soaring through the roof Georgia and Fayette's gas prices keep soaring through the roof. According to AAA Auto Club South's March report, prices have jumped another 15 cents a gallon since last month. Self-serve unleaded is now averaging $1.38 a gallon. Increases in the cost of crude oil directly affect all petroleum fuel prices. The major reason the nation as a whole is paying more for fuel today is because world crude oil prices rose from about $11 per barrel early in 1999 to more than $30 per barrel in early 2000, said Yoli Buss, director of traffic safety for AAA South. This was the direct result of an agreement between OPEC and a few other major oil producers to restrict crude oil production, she added. Since last March, consumers are paying an average of 55 cents more for a gallon of unleaded gas. last march, the average price was 83 cents a gallon. |
