Panthers stay perfect, others battle in hot constests By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Tuesday night was a night made for soccer. The weather was warm and the competition was hot. The still undefeated and top ranked Starr's Mill Lady Panthers traveled to Fayetteville Tuesday night to take on the Fayette County Lady Tigers. Kacy Murray of Starr's Mill started the scoring in the fourth minute of the game and her teammate Alison Graham scored two minutes later. Graham finished the evening with three goals, Murray chipped in two and Janet Burke and Marcy Hubbard each had one, as the Lady Panthers blanked Fayette County 7-0. The Fayette County boys fared better as they defeated Carver, Columbus 10-0. The Tigers went scoreless in the first 11 minutes of the game, but then scored five goals in the next nine minutes. The Tigers added one more goal before the half and scored four more goals in the second half. Fayette County outshot Carver 50-4 and had goals from eight players. Fayette County will host East Coweta at 8 p.m. Friday night. The Starr's Mill boys were also in action Tuesday night, taking on the fifth-ranked Heritage Patriots. The Panthers battled Heritage the entire way, but lost in overtime 3-2. The Sandy Creek boys played against the North Clayton Eagles and won 3-2. The Sandy Creek girls rode the momentum of their play in the LaGrange Invitational to an 8-0 win over Creekside. It was the Lady Patriots' second victory this season. The Newnan Lady Cougars and the McIntosh Chiefs and Lady Chiefs were off Tuesday night but will be back in action this weekend. Newnan will host East Coweta at 7 p.m. Friday, while the third-ranked Lady Chiefs will be playing in Huntsville, Ala. at 7 p.m. Friday and in Grissom, Ala. Saturday at 1 p.m. The eighth-ranked boys will host Griffin at 8 p.m. Friday night. |
