“Once there were four children whose names were Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy. This story is about something that happened to them when they were sent away from London during the war because of the air raids.”

So begins the beloved children's classic “The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe,” part of C.S. Lewis's “Chronicles of Narnia” and the current production from the FirstStage Theatre Company. The troupe's two-person production recently finished a stint at its theater in Atlanta and will be performed at the Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church this Friday and Saturday.

“The best thing about this particular version of the book is that it allows the audience to use their imagination,” said director Luann Purcell. “Too many book adaptations do all the imagining for us, and take away the fun of the book rather than adding to it.”

The play was adapted from the book by Clanche du Rand and has been produced all around the world. It was recently performed before sold out audiences in Toronto. The story transports the four children to the land of Narnia and follows their adventures with the White Witch, the lion Aslan, and a variety of talking animals and mythical creatures.

Each performance will be followed by actors reading from another classic children's book. “The Hobbit,” “A Wrinkle in Time,” and another Narnia book, “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” are planned.

FirstStage is in its second year of producing plays for children and adults, using professional actors and the highest quality scripts. The company will present the classic comedy “She Stoops to Conquer” in June.

The performances this weekend will be at the Carriage Lane Presbyterian Church in Peachtree City at 7 p.m. Friday and at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $5 for children and senior citizens and $7 for adults. The play is recommended for children ages 6 and up.
