The weekend saw two sets of regional soccer opponents and county rivals meet and the results were rather lopsided. McIntosh traveled to Tiger Stadium on Saturday afternoon and struck early and often.

Melanie Schneider scored two goals for McIntosh in the first six minutes of the game, as the Chiefs created all the pressure early. Fayette County appeared a little stunned at first but made several attempts in the game's second 10 minutes. McIntosh scored another goal in the 21st minute of the first half and went into the half, leading 3-0.

Julie Herdic, the leading scorer for the Lady Chiefs and the region, scored the next two goals, eight minutes apart from each other. Fayette County answered five minutes later when Faith Joslin found the back of the net. It was too little, too late for the Lady Tigers as McIntosh would score two more goals and win the game, 7-1. The Lady Chiefs are currently undefeated and beat Lovejoy last Thursday evening, 15-0. The Lady Tigers will participate in the Newnan Georgia-Alabama Challenge this weekend. Their first game will be against Auburn at 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening.

The Starr's Mill Lady Panthers, last year's AAA state soccer champions, faced Sandy Creek last Friday night and won, 15-0. The team, which returns all of last year's players, got multiple goal games from Kacy Murray and Janet Burke. The Lady Panthers led 5-0 at the half and then exploded for 10 second half goals. Starr's Mill has had an easy go of things so far, but will host AAAA powerhouse Parkview on Friday night. The lady panthers home games are played at the Soccer Complex on Hwy. 74 in Peachtree City.

The McIntosh boys soccer team is off to a good start as well. Currently, 4-0, McIntosh hammered Carver-Columbus last Friday night, 15-0. Matt Clements scored four goals for the Chiefs and senior Beau Balesky only needs five more goals this season to become the school's all-time leading goal scorer. So far this season, McIntosh has outscored their opponents, 29-1. The Chiefs hosted LaGrange last night.

The Fayette County boys wish things were going just a little better. The Tigers found themselves on the losing side against Upson-Lee the other night. They have not been outplayed for an entire game, but they have yet to find their rhythm on offense and defense. The fayette County boys team will also play in the Newnan Georgia-Alabama Challenge, facing Gadsden on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m.
