Say
no to The Village in F'ville I understand that the proposed new development in Fayetteville called The Village is a very pleasing to look at and has some good development plans. But I oppose it, as do many people in my neighborhood. My main opposition is the added traffic on Ga. Highway 54 West near Fayette County High School and North Glynn Street (Ga. Highway 85). The traffic is already above capacity now and adding 3,000 or more cars a day will make it near impossible to travel at that intersection during several time periods. Without the development, the traffic will continue to grow at that intersection because the county office complex and library are there, besides traffic for the high school, two elementary schools and traffic coming to Fayetteville for the high-traffic retail areas on North Glynn. This development is so different than anything currently in Fayetteville it requires a new zoning ordinance. The last thing Fayetteville needs is new types of zoning. We should being doing away with the PUD zoning instead of adding new kinds of development. I think local government should purchase the property for a city park and for possible later use by the schools or expansion of city or county offices. It would make an ideal location for government use since schools and other government offices are already adjacent to the proposed development. Recently, Mayor Ken Steele and Councilman Bill Talley were elected on a platform of holding the line on development and stopping increased traffic. Now is the time for them to fulfill their campaign promises. Fayetteville residents should contact Mayor Steele and the council members and encourage them vote no on the new zoning ordinance and the development. Voting against the new zoning ordinance would kill the development. Chris Hagin Fayetteville
