'Titantic:
The Musical' ready to set sail in Atlanta By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
In recent years there have been many works about the fateful journey of the RMS Titanic. The infamous disaster has been the subject of novels, plays, films as well as a Tony Award-winning musical, which begins at the Fox Theatre Feb. 29. The musical, which has nothing to do with the hit film, focuses on the lives and yearnings of the crew, staff and passengers unfolding against the backdrop of what was considered the pride of nautical engineering. Written by Peter Stone (1776) and Maury Yeston (Grand Hotel), Titanic won awards in every category in which it was nominated in the 1997 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book and Best Sets. The musical also was a success with audiences. The original Broadway cast recording of Titanic is the fastest selling Broadway cast recording in RCA history. It also was nominated for a Grammy Award. Titanic will play Tuesday through Saturdays, Feb. 29 - March 5, at 8 p.m., Sundays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday matinees at 2 p.m. Tickets range in price from $23-$45 and can be purchased at the Fox Theatre box office or any Ticketmaster outlet.
