Attention flower lovers, the 2000 Southeastern Flower Show is returning to Atlanta this weekend at the Atlanta Exposition Center. Featuring competitors from all over the region, the flower show promotes a better understanding and respect for the natural environment. Along with many different exhibitions, classes and contests will showcase the talents of many of Georgia's green thumbs. Sponsored by the Atlanta Botanical Garden, the show begins Wednesday and lasts through Sunday. Guided tours will be available through all the major levels of the competition; junior, artistic, education, garden design, horticulture, landscaping and professional. Special features in this year's program include an interpretive design competition based on the character of the Mad Hatter, and two invitational categories, a composition based on the theme Two Sides to Every Story and a composition featuring new and unusual varieties of flower. The 2000 Southeastern Flower Show is open 9:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, 9:30 a.m to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday. The Atlanta Expositon Center is at 3650 Jonesboro Road. Take exit 40 off Interstate 285, three miles east of Hartsfield International Airport. Admission is $15 for general admission, $11 if you purchase your tickets in advance. Two-day admission is $20 and children under 4 are admitted free. The cost of admission for children 4-16 or students with valid ID is $5. Guided tours of the flower show are available for $35 for an individual and $30 per person in a group.
