PTC attorney demands reatraction of libelous' letters

The Citizen published a letter on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, entitled, “PTC Needs Higher Ethical Standard for It's Attorney,” and a letter on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, entitled, “How can PTC Attorney Represent City With Such Tie.”

The letter of Feb. 9, 2000, accuses me of unethical behavior by being on the board of a local bank while being city attorney, and implies that I have improperly profited from my representation of the City of Peachtree City.

The letter of Feb. 16, when read in light of the Feb. 9 letter, also accuses me of unethical behavior and insinuates that I am involved in improper relationships. The statements and insinuations contained in the letters are erroneous, false and libelous. These statements have not only harmed myself and my family, but as senior partner of the law firm of Webb, Stuckey & Lindsey, LLC, the publication of these letters has also harmed the law firm.

Pursuant to O.C.G.A. 51-5-11, I am making a demand on behalf of myself, my family, and Webb, Stuckey & Lindsey, LLC, for you to, within seven days after receiving this written demand or in the next regular issue of The Citizen newspaper, correct and retract the libelous statements in as conspicuous and public a manner as that in which your libelous statements were published. Further, I request that you publish an editorial in which you correct, retract, and specifically repudiate these libelous statements.
