Civil War historians to discuss signifigance of county

Edward Jordan Lanham has been a man with a mission for the past several years. That mission has been locating all Civil War Veterans, both Union and Confederate, who were buried in Fayette County.

He will relate how he has accomplished this task, along with documentation of his finds, at the Sunday, Feb. 20 meeting of the Fayette County Historical Society at 3 p.m. at the society's Research Center at 195 Lee St., Fayetteville.

In addition to the search itself, Lanham has hauled tons of granite markers to those graves which had no marker and whose occupant he has been able to determine. Lanham will share his quest through slides and his personal comments.

He lives in Brooks and has been a Fayette County resident for 22 years. He was born in Zebulon and reared in Griffin.

Lanham owns Jordan Homes and Properties Inc. Examples of his new homes, whose exterior and character are based on historic homes, can be found in North Cove and The Point in Peachtree City.

In addition to members and friends of the society, anyone who has an interest in history is invited to attend the meeting.
