Put
census forms in the mail As I read how people in Georgia were to receive their census forms this year, I couldn't believe my eyes. It is unbelievable that anyone would ever suggest that it would be more practical to place the census form in the front door of each Georgia resident rather than delivery via the U.S. Postal Service. The introduction of the 911 system now has changed most rural route numbers into an address with house number and street or road name. Can you visualize the amount of time and money spent in having census workers physically deliver these forms door-to-door to 40 percent of Georgia's population? These census workers are paid by the hour plus mileage. If we truly want a census form to be seen and held in the hands of each Georgia resident, what better way than to have these forms delivered through the U.S. Mail? If we can receive our tax notices through the U.S. Mail, we should also be able to receive our census forms the same way. There's one thing that most of us most definitely can be counted on to do that is, to look at our mail, whether it be a bill or a welfare or Social Security check. When was the last time you checked your front door for mail? The article states, The Postal Service would be up to the delivery job, if asked. I think steps should be taken by someone now to ask for that service. If we are truly concerned about an accurate and timely count of all Georgia residents, let's get the forms into their hands (not in their front doors). What can we do to stop this tremendous waste of our tax dollars? We need to act now. Contact your congressmen. Time is running out. Jackie
