OK, SPLOST, DOT, ARC: Bypass this

I read with interest and great concern about a Fayetteville Bypass (from here on known as FB). There are all kind of letters and names passed around in the story.

The DOT. Well, there's a doozy for you. They're the only state agency I've ever known to brag on how many people they wipe out. Just watch next time you pass a few guys holding up shovels. There will be a sign saying, “51 people have died at DOT work sites.” I don't think that's a fact to advertise.

Here's another one: ARC. All that does for me is create an image of Big Brother telling me that I don't know what I really need in the way of transportation.

I think we've needed an FB for a while. At least line up the intersection of McElroy and County Line roads so my neighbors and I won't get clobbered by cars topping that hill doing 60 or so.

SPLOST. Hmmmmmmm. Special People Leech On Senseless Taxes. `Nuff said.

So here's how I see it. The DOT and the ARC plan to spend the SPLOST with Harold, Crandle and Mutt. I would greatly appreciate it if someone who thought they were important would come to Bailey Oaks and talk to us. You know, give the classic lie, oops, I mean, line of “Ohhhhh, you won't have to worry about too much commercial development! We saved that for Fayetteville and Peachtree City.” I'm sure the fine people of Ridgemont, Shore Line and other neighborhoods would like to see you while you're out here.

If I am going to have to cough up sales tax money, I would rather it go to build a jail to keep more criminals off the streets. To all you kind folks bellyaching about the new jail, think of it this way. You won't be overrun by commercial development.

So, for the FB, we will have to deal with the DOT, the ARC and maybe a SPLOST, but above all, please don't forget about little ol' ME.
