Fans of Christian rock will get a special treat this Friday when The Waiting takes the stage of the old dollar theater in Fayetteville.

The Waiting, an Atlanta-based band that has reached national acclaim, is touring in support of its most recent album “Unfazed.” The band is made up of brothers Brad and Todd Olsen, Clark Leake and Brandon Thompson.

The Olsen brothers moved to the Atlanta area with their family from upstate New York as children. They were both interested in all types of music, playing a wide variety of musical instruments and writing songs together from a very young age. Both boys attended Georgia State University and soon met the other two members of their band.

The Waiting has released four albums; “Tillburry Town” (1991), “Blue Belly Sky” (1995), “The Waiting” (1997) and “Unfazed” (1999). Their self-titled album produced a number of the hits that made them household names in the Christian rock world. The band's style is much like the pop sounds of REM, The Wallflowers and Jars of Clay, combining elements of rock, folk and sometimes country and blues.

The energy of The Waiting's music paves the way for the group's powerful lyrics about members' relationships with God.

Producing four number one Christian rock songs, The Waiting has toured with some big names recently. The group toured with Sixpence None the Richer in 1998 and with Christian rock mainstay Petra last year. The band also was nominated for a Dove Award in 1998 for Rock Album of the Year its album The Waiting.

Over the years, the band has fine tuned its sound for live performances and has strengthened its songwriting by collaborating with some other writers, including Linda Perry of 4 Non Blondes. It is the band members' continuing quest for excellence that has made them one of the more popular acts in Christian rock and insures a lucrative future.

The Waiting will play Friday, Feb. 11 at the old Dollar Theater behind Mrs. Winners in Fayetteville. Doors open at 7 p.m. and Jill Parr will open the show. The cost is $10 per person or $8 per person with a group of eight or more. Tickets can be purchased at Family Christian, Sonrise or Olive Branch bookstores or by calling 770-461-1756.
