lakers lose opener The Clayton State women's tennis team opened their 2000 season today against Peach Belt rival Georgia College. The Lady Lakers had only four players to put on the court, but those four won three of the six matches played. Georgia College went into the match with a three point edge, as Clayton State was forced to default two singles and one doubles match. The Lady Lakers top doubles team, Tatiana Semenova and Leah Brownell, dropped their doubles match 8-4 to the Bobcat duo of Lilia Biktyskova and Julia Roudkovskaya. However, Maria Zurita and Toko Masiane posted an 8-5 win over GCSU's Beata Adam and Trish McDonald at number-two doubles. In singles, Georgia College's top seed, Megan Hughes, defeated TatianaSemenova 6-4, 6-2. At the number two singles slot, Julia Roudkovskaya defeated Leah Brownell 6-3, 6-0. Clayton State freshman Maria Zurita defeated Beata Adam 6-0, 6-1 at number three singles. Lady Laker Toko Masiane recorded Clayton State's other singles win with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-4 fourth-seed win over Ina Dreiseitl. Georgia College improves to 2-0 on the season and in the league while Clayton State drops to 0-1 overall and in the conference. The Lady Lakers travel to Armstrong Atlantic State University on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. Peach Belt match.
