league teams play intense as high school season nears end By MICHAEL BOYLAN While the high school basketball season is winding down into it's postseason play, the church league is just heating up. New Hope Baptist leads the A league, which has three teams tied for second place. The B league is much closer together. Fayette Presbyterian is on top of the standings with a record of 4-1, while Providence is in second place at 3-1 and First Methodist is in third place with a record of 3-2. In last week's A-League games, Prince of Peace defeated First Baptist, 55-48, New Hope Baptist won over Southern Crescent by a score of 53-34 and Braelinn Baptist defeated Christ the King, 61-55. The A league teams faced each other earlier this week on Monday night. Southern Crescent edged out Christ the King, 45-42, Braelinn Baptist defeated First Baptist, 51-42, and New Hope Baptist won over Price of Peace, 65-57. The B League met on the court twice last week, on Tuesday and Friday night. Heritage Christian had Woolsey Baptist's number last Tuesday, winning by a score of 50-28. Providence defeated First Methodist, 48-35 and Fayette Presbyterian won over Fayette Community Baptist, 41-33. Fayette Presbyterian defeated First Methodist on Friday night by a score of 55-33, while Heritage Christian narrowly defeated Providence, 41-39. Woolsey Baptist rounded out the evening's action by beating Lisbon Baptist 64-53. The two leagues play their games in the gym of the old Fayette County High School. |
