Lots
of good catches at annual Fisharama By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Despite the recent winter weather, Georgians will soon shift their focus to outdoor recreation. Proof of this is the annual Atlanta Fisharama/Duckarama, sponsored by the Georgia Wildlife Federation, taking place this weekend. The exhibition is the largest of its kind in the world, offering low prices on equipment, giving tips on fishing and duck hunting, and offering fun for the whole family. One of the biggest attractions each year is the Skoal Outdoors Bass Tub. There will be hourly presentations from some of the top fisherman in the world. One of the special guests giving a seminar this year is Guy Eaker, winner of over $1 million in fishing tournaments. Eaker will share some of his tips and sign autographs. Other educational speakers this year will be Wendell Harper, one of the best fishermen around with more than 35 years experience fishing off the Georgia coast, and Joey Mines, host of Outdoors with Joey Mines, which airs on SportSouth and the Outdoor Channel. Chapman Spangler also will be on hand with tips and autographs. The kids will also love the Georgia Wildlife Federation Fishing Hole, where children 12 and under fish free. The kids can be entered in the Bassmasters Casting Kids Contest, which is open to children ages 7-14, and will be Friday and Saturday 1-9 p.m. The state casting finals will be Sunday at 1 p.m. Duckarama has a popular contest as well, the Georgia Wildlife Federation Duck Calling Contest, Sunday at 3 p.m. In the senior and youth division, prizes for winners include a trophy, CVA Trapper Shotgun with duck engraving on the lock plate, and a one-year membership in the Georgia Wildlife Federation. Duck hunters also will get to view a seminar, watching top gun dogs perform and learn dog-training methods as were used by master trainer Richard A. Wolters. There will be dozens of outdoor companies on hand, with promotional items, special prices and prizes to be won. Fisharama/Duckarama will be Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4-6 at the Atlanta Expo Center. Doors are open Friday 1-9 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $6 for adults and $3 for seniors and children 6-12. Children under 6 will be admitted free.
