Starr wrestlers finish season undefeated By
MICHAEL BOYLAN The Rising Starr Middle School wrestling team completed their undefeated season last weekend by winning the first annual Metro Middle School Athletic League wrestling tournament in commanding fashion. The starting lineup of 17 wrestlers produced 16 medalists and 9 overall league champions. The champions were Tyler Murphy (75), Devin King (80), Tyler Kourajian (85), Jason James (90), Danny Hartpence (115), David Hanson (120), Keith Mundy (137), Andy Kragor (157), and Chris Kragor (167). Jake Myers took second in the 275 pound weight group, while Matthew Drake (147), Patrick Phillips (110), and Michael Koziol (105) took third place. Kevin Brown (100) and Daniel Baily (127) each placed fourth. In the exhibition tournament, Rising Starr produced three champions and 12 medalists. The champions were Ritch Caraway (90), Kyle Cook (95) and David Woods (110). Joey Genovese (80), Chad Fletcher (85), and Chris Rodell (127) each took second place in the exhibition tournament. Sean O'Brien (105), Kellen Smith (110), Michael Graham (115), and Michael Plath (120) placed third while, David Drake (100) and David Edison (147) placed fourth. The team was coached by Dennis Bogumill and looks forward to another stellar season next year. |
