Catch the Spirit!

The theme of the gathering suggests midwinter contagion, and indeed the upcoming weekend of workshops and speakers in Peachtree City is designed to spread inspiration among participants from the Southeastern Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.

The Rev. John Weber, senior pastor at Christ Our Shepherd Lutheran Church in Peachtree City where the event will take place, is one of the synod's Evangelism Partners who developed the Help for Ministry conference.

Sessions are scheduled to begin Friday evening Feb. 4 and run through Saturday afternoon. They will comprise the fifth Catch the Spirit! event, the first one convenient to Atlanta area southside Lutherans. Previous conferences have taken place in Marietta and Rincon, Ga.

Keynote speaker for the weekend is the Rev. Dr. Tony Everett of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary at Columbia, S.C. Bible Study Leader is the Rev. Dr. W. Arthur Lewis, director of the Lutheran Theological Center in Atlanta.

An expected 250 or more participants will attend a total of 32 workshops of church concern stewardship, evangelism, prayer and social ministry, and multicultural issues. Local pastors and church leaders who will guide discussions include the Rev. Justin Kollmeyer and Pam Blaesing of Prince of Peace in Fayetteville, and Weber, Linda Lake, Neva Warren and David Beecher of Christ Our Shepherd. Other lay and clerical leaders will come from parishes throughout Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee and South Carolina.

“We are blessed to have some really good people coming,” Weber said.
