Chief Murray gets apology I would like to publicly apologize for a letter I wrote to the editor of The Citizen newspaper that was printed in the June 16, 1999, edition. In that letter I accused the police chief of the Peachtree City Police Department of threatening the arrest of Cub Scouts and leaders participating in this summer's day camp. I based my comments on what I had been told by various parties involved with the operation of the Cub Scout day camp at Oak Grove Elementary School. I was told that all permits were applied for and that at the last minute approval for marksmanship and archery events were denied. I was also told that if they should happen to hold such events there would be consequences to such actions up to and including arrest. I had no reason to doubt the veracity of these comments, as I thought they came from reliable sources. These same people, now, will not back up their statements; therefore, I must assume they were not telling me the complete story or perhaps even the truth. I admit I made an error in judgment trusting these people and not talking to Chief James Murray directly. I did make my comments, perhaps in haste, due to the fact that my son was going to the day camp and was quite disappointed that the above mentioned events had to be canceled. I was quite upset at the turn of events and incorrectly blamed the police chief for what apparently was not his fault. I am sorry if I caused any embarrassment to Chief Murray. George W. Boggs
