McIntosh
swims past Patriots in recent meet By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The swim teams of McIntosh and Sandy Creek met at the Kedron Aquatic Center last week and McIntosh dominated from the get-go. The Lady Chiefs defeated the Lady Patriots 203-76 and the Chiefs defeated Sandy Creek 178-76. Molly MacGregor and Annya Lee delivered state qualifying times of 26:02 and 26:31 in the 50 freestyle to clinch the first two places in that event. MacGregor also took first in the 100 freestyle with a state qualifying time of 58.25. Both the girls 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay teams qualified for the state championships as well. The Lady Chiefs took all of the first place positions at the meet: Becky Brokish in the 200 and 500 freestyle, Asami Mase in the 200 individual medley, Lee in the 100 butterfly, Becca Thome in the 100 backstroke, and Ali Derr in the 100 breaststroke. Thome, Derr, MacGregor and Erin Bartels teamed to take first in the 200 medley relay. The boys also cleaned up in the relays. David Briggs, Alex MacGregor, Luke McMurray and Mike Broker won the 200 medley relay. Billy Whitehouse, Michael Powers, George Clark and Chris Jobson won the 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay. In individual matches, Clark won the 200- and 500-yard freestyle, Jobson won the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly and Powers won the 50 and 100 freestyles. Head Coach Sean Murphy is happy with the breadth and depth of both of his teams. We've been able to let our swimmers try different strokes and relay positions. We'll be fine tuning the lineup for the county championships. The county championships will be Feb. 4 at the Kedron Aquatic Center at 5 p.m. Admission is free. |
