Lady
Chiefs reflect on successful 1999 season By MICHAEL
BOYLAN The McIntosh Lady Chief softball program recently celebrated a successful 1999 season. Highlights from the 1999 season included head Coach Steve Kidd winning his 100th career win in fast pitch softball. Kidd began coaching in 1985, but did not start coaching fast pitch until 1995. He has accumulated 293 wins in his coaching career. Also, 1999 was the fourth year that the Lady Chiefs fast pitch team made the state sectionals. Their advancing came from a 5-3 win over arch-rival Lovejoy. Another individual milestone in 1999 was pitcher Brooke King recording her 500th career strikeout. King pitched varsity all four years of high school, finishing with a career ERA of 0.86. Awards were presented to the Lady Chiefs for their 1999 accomplishments. Brooke King received the Most Valuable Player award, recording 121 strikeouts and a 1.01 ERA during the season. She hones her skills by playing with the Phoenix softball club during the summer. Seniors, first baseman Abby King and shortstop Britte Hardy, earned Most Valuable Infielder awards. King plays fast pitch softball with the Heat over the summer, while Hardy plays basketball and runs track. Senior center fielder Candace Moore received the Most Valuable Outfielder Award for the second year in a row. She plays with the Southside Diamonds during the summer. Hardy, Abby King and catcher Megan Mulcahy earned Valuable Offensive Player awards. King and Mulcahy tied with a .378 batting average. Hardy and Mulcahy tied, driving in 21 RBI. Mulcahy works on her softball skills by playing with the Atlanta Vipers during the summer. Though many Lady Chiefs will graduate this spring, the Lady Chiefs look forward to another successful fast pitch season in 2000. It will be the first time that McIntosh has ever been involved in Region 4-AAA fast pitch softball. The team played slow pitch in AAA in the late 1980s. |
