McIntosh and Starr's Mill basketball teams faced some quality region opponents Friday night, knowing that their performance had as much importance as a victory.

McIntosh hosted the Stockbridge Tigers and Starr's Mill hosted Riverdale.

The Chiefs, both the boys and the girls, defeated Stockbridge. The Lady Chiefs, still undefeated in the subregion, won 49-23 and the boys won 46-39. The girls were led by Jessi Prahl who scored 17 points and pulled in 10 rebounds. Britte Hardy sparked the team as well by playing good defense and scoring 12 points.

The boys were led in scoring by Stephen Cox who scored 19 points in the win.

McIntosh now plays seven games on the road, starting with a game at East Coweta last night. The Chiefs will play at Lovejoy Friday night at 7 p.m.

Starr's Mill's Panthers knew they had their work cut out for them when they faced Riverdale. To defeat the Raiders, one must shut down their speed and talent, which is a pretty hard task when it cannot be simulated in a practice. The girls played hard but lost to the Lady Raiders 71-58. They were led in scoring by Amy Holloway who scored 23.

The boys challenged the Raiders straight up as well, playing unafraid and very physical. The Panthers had cut Riverdale's lead to four points at the half and were trailing by seven with a minute left in the game. Starr's Mill had to foul Riverdale in an attempt to close the gap at the end of the game and Riverdale capitalized, winning 67-55. Donny Lampen led the Panthers with 19 points, while Matt Houck chipped in 17 points, Chris Adams added 10 points and Dane Davenport added eight assists.

“I'm very pleased with the performance of this team,” said Coach Tim Miller. “We've played some tough competition in our last few games and we've been hanging in there with those teams.” The effort that Starr's Mill brings forth in every game could make for an interesting post-season tournament. The Panthers played host to Sandy Creek last night and will travel to Forest Park Friday night for games beginning at 7 p.m.

The Sandy Creek girls lost to Woodward Academy Friday night 56-45. Ashley Lott scored 11 points, pulled in 12 rebounds and made five blocks, while Maya Hughes scored 10 points and pulled in 10 rebounds.
