Southwest Christian Hospice's Hope House receives $30,000 donation

A recently-established scholarship foundation has presented its first major donation to a local non-profit organization. The Evelyn Vellguth Foundation made a donation in the amount of $30,000 to the Hope House, a ministry of the Southwest Christian Hospice.

The Hope House is an organization serving the needs of families with children suffering from life-threatening illnesses and severe disabilities.

A one-hundred-percent donor supported organization, it helps to ease the suffering of children, as well as their families, with both facility-based and home-based care. The donation will be applied toward the construction of a Hope House facility. Southwest Christian Hospice currently provides hope house services mainly through home-based support.

Mike Sorrow, Director of the Southwest Christian Hospice, says the Vellguth donation "will significantly help in the three million dollar fundraising effort." Sorrow explains, "A smile is hope. A touch is hope. A word is hope. Now imagine taking all of these things and building a house out of them. That is our goal for Hope House, and now we are closer to that goal thanks to the Evelyn Vellguth Foundation."

The Evelyn Vellguth Foundation is a non-profit organization that primarily provides scholarships and assistance to those who may not qualify for financial aid. Founded in the memory of Evelyn Vellguth, a local humanitarian, the foundation carries on her love for helping others by aiding young adults in their pursuit of a college education.

Although the Evelyn Vellguth Foundation is normally involved in scholastic scholarships, it decided to make a contribution to help in the construction of the Hope House.

"We have the same goal as the Hope House--helping people," said Bill Oliver, Evelyn Vellguth Foundation President. "We made this donation because we knew Evelyn would have taken up this cause. It is in her memory and with her love that we attempt to help those who need assistance."
