Habitat
for Humanity taking application for new homes Fayette County residents who think they may qualify to purchase a Habitat for Humanity home are invited to a workshop on Saturday, March 4, at the First Baptist Church of Morrow. The workshop will start at 9 a.m. and will end at noon. Homeowner applications will be accepted at the workshop. Applicants must meet certain requirements to qualify. A spokesperson explains: We feel it is important for applicants to understand that this program is selective and requires a great deal of commitment on their part as well as ours. We promise that we will always attempt to handle the selection process scripturally and with compassion and genuine concern. For the program to work, they must be committed to partnering with us in our efforts to eliminate poverty housing from Clayton, Fayette and Henry counties. Partnering is one of the three criteria the organization uses in determining who is selected for housing through the habitat program. The second criteria is need. Need may arise from overcrowding, substandard housing, unreasonably high rent, or unsafe conditions among other possibilities. The third criteria is the ability to repay the mortgage. Habitat offers mortgages on a 20-year, no interest basis, the spokesperson continued. The money homeowners pay monthly is used to build more homes for more deserving families. The First Baptist Church of Morrow is at 1647 Lake Harbin Rd. in Morrow, near the Morrow Post Office and next to the Morrow Police Station. Southern Crescent Habitat for Humanity serves Clayton, Fayette and Henry Counties. For additional information, call 770-477-2367.
