Teams
play tough games on Tuesday By MICHAEL
BOYLAN Tuesday night saw our local teams pitted against some of their tougher regional competition. The results were mixed, but the experience is sure to come in handy when they meet with these opponents later in the season. Starr's Mill's boys and girls both had their hands full at North Clayton Tuesday evening. The girls lost 49-40, while the boys lost 68-55. The Lady Panthers either had the lead or were tied for the entire game, until the fourth quarter. North Clayton switched its attack and held Starr's Mill to only four points in the final quarter. Alison Horne led the team in scoring with nine points. Jamie Vining and Amy Holloway each scored eight. Starr's Mill will host Riverdale Friday at 7 p.m. McIntosh played host to Griffin and split with the Bears. The girls won 51-44. Jessi Prahl led the Lady Chiefs with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Melanie Schneider chipped in 15 points. The boys did not fare as well, losing 74-56. Josh Burr led the Chiefs in scoring with 25 points and Stephen Cox added 10 points. The Chiefs will host Stockbridge at 7 p.m. Friday. Sandy Creek faced Riverdale. The boys lost to the Raiders 76-47, while the girls lost 61-24. The lady patriots made over 30 turnovers and shot very poorly. Ashley Lott scored eight points for SandyCreek and Alexis McCoy added six points. The boys team made a lot of mistakes as well, making Riverdale appear better than they are. L.T. Lockett scored 16 points in the loss and Jermaine Harris added 10 points. Sandy Creek will travel to College Park to meet Woodward Academy Friday evening. In other basketball action, Fayette County traveled to Newnan Tuesday and lost both games. The Lady Tigers were edged out 67-60, while the boys lost 84-68. The Tigers will play host to the Griffin Bears Friday night. East Coweta's Lady Indians improved to 11-3 on the season with a victory over LaGrange. Morgan Ottens led the team with 20 points, as East Coweta cruised to a 56-39 win. |
