The scene for the Fayette Duals, a.k.a. the County Wrestling Championship, was the Old Fayette County High School Gym.

It was dark and the quarters were close, but that enhanced the overall effect of the grueling and exciting matches.

Starr's Mill won the meet with 164 overall points. The team defeated McIntosh 49-17, beat Fayette County 45-24 and pounded Sandy Creek 70-6. Gary James (103), Ariston Bowers (140) and Drew Cofty (152) went 3-0 in the meet.

Fayette County placed second overall with 127 total points. The Tigers walked over Sandy Creek 62-15 and edged out McIntosh with their final four wrestlers, 41-33. McIntosh placed third overall, scoring 109 points. The Chiefs defeated the Sandy Creek Patriots 59-16.

McIntosh will host the McIntosh Duals Saturday with wrestling beginning at 9 a.m. Sandy Creek also will wrestle at McIntosh this weekend.

Starr's Mill takes its act on the road, wrestling in the Dalton Carpet Classic Friday and Saturday.
