Singles at Braelinn Baptist return to Mayberry R.F.D.

The Andy Griffith show has been providing good, clean entertainment for over three decades. Now the singles ministry at Braelinn Baptist Church in Peachtree City is putting a new twist on this long-time classic by using it to teach Biblical principles. Each week will feature a different episode of the show and a discussion immediately following the viewing.

Why the Andy Griffith show? The show is highly entertaining and fun yet each episode features a moral lesson many of which relate easily to ideas taught in the Bible. The study was first taught at a church in Huntsville, Alabama and became so popular that a website was created making the lessons available to the public. Word of the series has spread throughout the Christian community and many other churches have hosted the series with positive response from their members.

So why a singles class? “Although our class is made up of singles with and without children, one of the many appeals of this topic to our members is the fact that Andy is a single dad,” said class leader and single dad, Chris Bruner. “We also feel that Andy's character has many of the characteristics that we would like to implement in our own lives as single adult Christians. While the show was not based on Christianity per se, it is easy to draw parallels between the show and fundamentals of Christianity.”

Although the study began Sunday Jan. 9, it will run for eight weeks. The class starts at 9 a.m. each Sunday and is open to all singles interested in attending.

Braelinn Baptist Church is located at the corner of Robinson Road and Crosstown Road in Peachtree City.
