Genealogy: Finding Your Folks

“Southern” pedigree shows Arnold, Summers, Cole, Price, Pollard, Gardner and many other local surnames

This week’s column was, once again, contributed by Ken Arnold, and gives his “pedigree” which I requested (from any of you) several weeks ago. However, he “cheated” us and only sent the “southern” half, saying his maternal side is all from New York and Holland.

I’d like to remind all of you that even though the hard copy of the paper only goes to the south metro Atlanta area, the online version is read by people all over the world. So, please don’t hesitate to send your complete pedigree, even though some of your ancestors are not from our readership area. If you had only one or two ancestors who lived here, I’d still love to see your pedigree. Who knows? We might find a long-lost cousin in Holland for Ken.

But, hoping to make some southern connections, here’s the pedigree of Ken Arnold (karnold2@bellsouth.net):

Ken’s paternal grandparents are:

Elijah Glen Arnold, b. 29 June 1867 in Coweta Co., GA., d. 15 June 1951 in Coweta Co., and Emma Frances Summers, b. 23 Feb. 1866 in Coweta Co., d. 26 May 1963 in Coweta Co. Both are buried in Sharpsburg Baptist Church Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Ken’s paternal great-grandparents are:

Thomas Hardeman Arnold, b. 12 May 1831 in Wilkes Co., GA., d. 31 Oct. 1911 in Coweta Co., and Eletha Ann Cole, b. 24 Nov. 1833 in Kershaw Co., SC. d. 5 Oct. 1885 in Coweta Co. Both are buried in Sharpsburg Baptist Church Cemetery, Coweta Co.

William Robert Summers, b. 19 Dec. 1842 in Coweta Co., d. 13 Mar. 1904 in Coweta Co., and Mary Elizabeth Price, b. 14 Apr. 1842 in Fayette Co., GA., d. 30 Nov. 1920 in Coweta Co. Both are buried in Tranquil Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Ken’s paternal great-great grandparents are:

Owen Arnold, b. 24 Oct. 1803 in Wilkes Co., GA., d. 26 Nov. 1853 in Pike Co., GA and Levicey Pollard, b. 15 May 1808 in Wilkes Co., d. 2 Feb. 1848 in Pike Co. Both are buried in Pike Co., cemetery unknown.

William Jesse Cole, b. 4 Apr. 1795 in Hancock Co. GA., d. 15 Aug. 1853 in Monroe Co. GA., and Susannah Gardner, b. 4 Mar. 1803 in Kershaw Co. SC., d. 25 Jan. 1875 in Monroe Co. Both are buried in Cole Cemetery, Lamar Co., GA.

Elijah Summers, b. 25 Sept. 1805 in Newberry Co, SC., d. 16 June 1895 in Coweta Co., and Nancy Elizabeth Cates, b. 23 Jan. 1809 in Orange Co., NC., d. 13 July 1896 in Coweta Co. Both are buried in Tranquil Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Quintus Samuel Price, b. 1 Dec. 1819 in Newberry Co., d. 22 Jan 1890 in Fayette Co., and Sarah Morgan, b. 16 June 1819 in Newberry Co., d. 13 Mar. 1863 in Fayette Co. Both are buried in Elmore Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Ken’s paternal great-great-great grandparents are:

Allen Jennings Arnold, b. 7 Mar. 1782 in VA., d. 3 May 1863 in Wilkes Co., GA, and Jane Owen, b. 15 Dec. 1784 in Oglethorpe Co. GA., d. Oct 1815 in Wilkes Co. She’s buried in County Line Baptist Church Cemetery, Wilkes Co.

William Pollard, b. abt. 1782 in unknown, d. 1819 in Wilkes Co., and Mary Allen, b. abt 1784 in unknown and died unknown. Both are buried in unknown.

Jacob Cole, b. 16 Nov. 1767 in Kershaw Co., SC., d. 21 Nov. 1847 in Pike Co., GA and Winniford/Winnifred Thompson, b. abt. 1770 in unknown, d. bef. 1850 in Pike Co. Both are buried unknown.

John Gardner II, b. 24 Apr. 1778 in VA., d. 6 Nov. 1860 in Monroe Co., GA and Susanna Catherine Pringle, b. 1778 in Kershaw Co., SC., d. 1857 in Monroe Co. Both buried in Liberty Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, Lamar Co., GA.

Samuel Summers, b. 10 July 1778 in Newberry Co., SC., d. 10 Nov. 1861 in Coweta Co., and Delilah Gary, b. Dec. 1784 in Newberry Co., d. 7 June 1867 in Coweta Co. Both are buried in Tranquil Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Asa Cates, b. 31 Dec. 1781 in Orange Co., NC., d. unknown in Coweta Co., and Frances Pratt, b. abt. 1785 in VA., d. unknown in Coweta Co. Both are buried in Tranquil Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Francis Price, b. 22 Jan 1781, in Hartford Co., CT., d. 21 Oct. 1847 in Fayette Co., GA and Elizabeth Morgan, b. 3 Aug. 1786 in Newberry Co., SC., d. 1872 in Fayette Co. Both are buried in Elmore Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Daniel Morgan, b. 1783 in Newberry Co., SC., d. after 1852 in Coweta Co., and Mary Langford, b. 1794 in Newberry Co., d. unknown in Coweta Co. Both are buried in Elmore Cemetery, Coweta Co.

Ken actually sent another generation, but space only allows us to go through his third greats. Some of the additional names in the next generation include Jennings, Hardeman, Phillips, McKoy, Teague, Sykes, Hughes, Wheeler, Pope, and Jordan, all born in the 1700s. I really appreciate Ken’s contribution and hope some of you out there may make some connections.
