Genealogy: Finding Your FolksThe Price family of Fayette and Coweta - ConclusionBy Judy Fowler Kilgore
Francis Price of Connecticut made his way south, moved through South Carolina and finally settled in Fayette County. But many of his relatives remained up north. Francis Prices sister, Nancy, born April 1784 in Glatonbury, Hartford Co., Conn., married an Episcopal clergyman, the Rev. Henry Peck, of Mt. Upson, Chenango Co., N.Y. In a letter dated Sept. 13, 1858, to his nephew, Quintus Samuel Price, Henry Peck lists his family. Your cousin Benjamin (Benjamin Price Peck) resides in the same vicinity with me. He has a wife and three children. Two daughters and a son. His oldest daughter married and settled near him. Your cousin Francis resides in vicinity of South New Berlin. He has a wife a four daughters. He is about eight miles from us and was with us yesterday and is at present engaged in teaching languages. Mrs. Burnham or your cousin, Indiana, resides at present with us as well. Your aunt (Nancy Price Peck) is now seventy-five years of age and is probably the only surviving member of her family ... One other child of Henry and Nancy Peck, Lorenzo Dow Peck, was not mentioned. Quintus Samuel Price of Fayette County, was born 1 Dec. 1819 in Newberry Co., S.C. and moved to Fayette County with his father, Francis Price. Samuel married Sarah A. Morgan, daughter of Daniel Morgan and Mary Langford. Sarah was born 16 June 1819 in Newberry County. Sam and Sarah had 10 children, all born in Fayette County: Mary Elizabeth Price, b. 14 April 1842, d. 30 Nov 1920 in Coweta Co.; Laura Ann Price, b. 1844, d. in Fayette Co.; Nancy A. Samuels sister, Mary Ann Price, married Lorenzo Morgan, brother of Sams first wife, on 15 Dec. 1841 in Fayette County. Mary Ann and Lorenzo had nine children: Nancy Morgan, b. 30 April 1849, d. 8 march 1829 in Coweta Co.; Elizabeth Morgan, b. 1842; Newton Morgan, b. 1844; Samantha Morgan, b. 1846; Hosea B. Samuels daughter, Mary Elizabeth Price, married William Robert Summers 12 Dec. 1861 in Coweta County. He was the son of Elijah Summers and Nancy Cates. Samuels son, David Johnson Price, married Etta Wilson and had two children: Harry J. Price, b. 1912, and Davie Price, b. 1916. Samuels son, John B. Price, married Annie Thomas Sumerly in 1894, and they had one child, Nonie Price. Quintus Samuel Price served during the Civil War as a private in Company G, Hule Guards, 44th Ga. Infantry, CSA. He was captured near Petersburg, Va. 3 April 1865 and was released at Point Lookout, Md. 17 June 1865. He wrote letters to many of his northern relatives while he was in Maryland. After his release, he stayed for a time in Maryland because he didnt have money to pay his way home. Samuel died in 1890 and is buried in the Elmore Cemetery in Coweta County, as is his first wife, Sarah Morgan Price. The burial place for Irene Martin Price was not given. Many of Samuels descendants still live in the Fayette and Coweta areas. My thanks, again, to Ken Arnold for this wonderful story.
