Bad Links? | ObituariesAnn R. Popwell Ann R. Popwell, 68, Fayetteville, died Nov. 6, 2004. She was born Nov. 8, 1935 in Clanton, Ala. She was a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in sociology. An artist, she had done oil and watercolor painting before taking up china painting after a stroke. She was one of 80 artists commissioned by Elizabeth Harris for the governors mansion during the term of Governor Joe Frank Harris. She was a past president of the Georgia World Organization of China Painters in 2001 and 2002. She was a member of North Fayette United Methodist Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Doug Burrell officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Gardens, Fayetteville. Survivors include her husband, Herman Joseph Popwell, Fayetteville; her mother, Olive Yarborough Wadsworth, Christian City, formerly of Clanton, Ala.; a son, Robert K. Popwell, Forest Park; a daughter, Olive Popwell and Kenneth J. Ashley, Newnan; grandchildren, Christopher B. Popwell, Emmaline Anna Ashley, Thomas Ashley, and Joseph Ashley. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge. Georgia McGarity Johnson Georgia McGarity Johnson, 74, Peachtree City, died Nov. 7, 2004. She was born Dec. 19, 1929 in Dallas, Ga., the daughter of Charles Benjamin and Maybelle Hitchcock McGarity. She was a 1949 graduate of the University of Georgia. She served as a truant officer in Wilkes County, where she met her husband, the late Raymond Rochford Sonny Johnson. They married in 1952. They had lived in Bryson City, N. C., where they owned and operated the Hemlock Inn. In 1969 they moved to Fairburn, and in 1971 moved to Peachtree City. Graveside services were at Resthaven Cemetery, Washington, Ga. with the Rev. Charles Hooper officiating. Survivors include children, Janette Johnson, Marietta, Virginia Weitnauer, Maryville, Tenn., Alice Hicks, Cleveland, Ga., and Roch Johnson, Atlanta; and grandchildren, Ford Johnson, Ben Johnson, Sam Johnson, and Libby Weitnauer. Interment was at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta. He was born May 5, 1910 in Fayette County, the son of Samuel Tilton Hall and Sara Elizabeth Bishop Hall. He was a member of Flat Creek Baptist Church. Services were at Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Bill Priester officiating. Interment was at Flat Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. She attended the University of Wisconsin and the Sophie Newcomb College prior to her marriage. She was long-time member of the Jonesboro First United Methodist Church. Services were at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point, with Pastor Ray Wiggins officiating. Interment was at Crest Lawn Cemetery, Atlanta. Survivors include her husband, Cecil Travis, Fayette County, whom she married in 1942; sons, Tony and Kris Travis, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mike and Linda Travis, Fayette County, and Rick Travis, Fayette County; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy and Warren Berry, Sandy Spring, Ga. He was born Sept. 25, 1926 in Cleburne County, Ala. He was a Korean War veteran, having served in the United States Army. He was retired in 1988 from Nestle Foods after 25 years of service. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and a Sunday School teacher. Services were at New Hope Baptist Church, South Campus, with the Rev. Wendell Banks and the Rev. Wally Woodcock officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, College Park. Survivors include his wife, Jean Richardson, Fayetteville; a son, Timothy Richardson, Fayetteville; a daughter, Patti and David Hall, Senoia; grandsons, Tim Richardson, Andrew Richardson, and Michael Richardson; brother, Larry Richardson, LaGrange, and Jack Richardson, Carrollton; and a sister, Shirley Hammond, Carrollton. Survivors include a son, Michael and Barbara Meyer, Fayetteville; a daughter, Jamie and Jim Foust, Corinth, N. Y.; sisters, Patricia Haage, Minnetonka, Minn., Janis Colver, Fairburn, Gwynna and John Taylor, Springfield, Vt.; and grandchildren Viva and Terry Bailey, Phoenix, Ariz., and Jordan Meyer, Orange, Calif. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge. Kathryn Ranney Rigby Kathryn Ranney Rigby, 95, Fayetteville, died Nov. 13, 2004. She was born June 28, 1909, in Galesburg, Ill, the daughter of Royal and Martha Webb Ranney. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Wallace Rigby, in 1959, and her second husband, Edward Gulbenkian, in 1987, a brother, Webb, and sisters, Frances and Helen. She had lived in Ohio, New York, Florida and Georgia. She loved being on the ocean. She attended Knox College in Galesburg, Ill. for two years, and Northwestern University for one year. She wrote a Duncan Hines newspaper column, and later newspaper food columns. Memorial services will be held later. Survivors include a son, James W. Rigby; a daughter-in-law, Jean Rigby, Hampton; grandchildren, John W. Rigby and Patty Rigby, Fayetteville, Elizabeth Rigby, Sedona, Ariz., and Linda A. Rigby, Hampton; great-grandchildren, John Tyler Rigby, and Trenton Lee Rigby, both of Fayetteville; a sister, Lucy and Arnold Cooper, and children in Alabama, Texas, and Illinois; and a nephew, Chuck and Linda Koester, Chicago, Ill. Martha Walker Martha Walker, 86, Atlanta, died Nov. 5, 2004. She was born Dec. 7, 1917 in Fayette County, daughter of Arthur and Emma Adams Walker. She spent most of her adult life in Corpus Christi, Texas, where she worked as a Civil Service employee. She was a Flight Instrument instructor for the United States Navy. Survivors include brother, Harold Walker, and Hugh Walker, Atlanta. Crypt side services were at the Camp Memorial Mausoleum with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Carl J.
