Isaiah Robert Rhodes, 80, Fayetteville, died Oct. 31, 2004. He was born June 17, 1924 in St. Clair, Ill. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel. Survivors include his wife, Kim Rhodes, Fayetteville; sons, Isaiah Robert Rhodes Jr., Girvious Rhodes, Kelvin McNeil, Riccardo Anderson, Robert Keith Rhodes, and Koblack Rhodes; daughters, Sandal Kelly, Carol Renee Washington, and Daeja Rhodes-Jenkins; special grandchildren, Kimberly, Angelina, Geneva, Tawana, Autoins, Dylan, McKenzie, Michael, Andrew, Kelvin Jr., and Ricara; and great-grandchildren, Christopher, Antranise, Antoine, Shamar, Shnas, and Malik. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
Patsy Sims Ponder
Patsy Sims Ponder, 64, Fayetteville, died Nov. 1, 2004. She was born March 9, 1940 in Atlanta. She earned her teaching degree from the University of Georgia, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She earned her masters degree from Mercer University. She taught elementary schools for over 25 years, primarily at Hood Avenue Elementary School. She was also a member of the teaching sorority Kappa Kappa Iota, and the Southwest Christian Church. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with Minister Paul Carrier officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include sons, Ricky Ponder, Senoia, Chris Ponder, Fayetteville, and Vince Ponder, Brooks; daughters, Vicky Ponder Gutwein, Brooks, and Valerie Ponder, Fayetteville; and 11 grandchildren. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.
Mary Sobolak Saly
Mary Sobolak Saly, 87, Tyrone, formerly of Elizabeth, N. J., died Nov. 2, 2004. She was born Aug. 14, 1917 in Elizabeth, N. J. Services were at Holy Trinity Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Walsh officiating. Interment was at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Linden, N. J. Survivors include children, Patricia Graham, Tyrone, Jeanette Lixey, Wellington, Fla., Christina Bauer, Toms River, N. J., Stella Olsen, Eidson, N. J.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 135 Bradford Square, Ste. B., Fayetteville, GA 30215. Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, Peachtree City, was in charge.
John Dunn Sr. John Doug Dunn Sr., 75, Fayetteville, died Nov. 1, 2004. He was born Dec. 28, 1928 in Clayton County, Ga., the son of William James and Lucy Matilda Dunn. His family operated a dairy farm in Forest Park, Ga., where he graduated from high school in 1946. He was a graduate of Georgia State University. He served in the United States Air Force from 1950 to 1952. He began his career with Delta Air Lines in 1946, starting in the stock warehouse, progressing through the ranks of the company to become buyer in the Purchasing Department in 1953. He was promoted to Director of Purchasing in 1966 and vice-president in 1973. He retired from Delta in 1993, after 47 years of service. Services were at the New Hope Baptist Church, South Campus, with the Rev. Wendell Banks and the Rev. Dr. Tim Woodruff officiating. Survivors include his wife, Cecile Almand Dunn, Fayetteville; a son, John Douglas and Jacqueline Dunn Jr., Peachtree City; a daughter, Suzanne Dunn and Tim Woodruff, Fayetteville; a brother, Jerry Dunn, Orlando, Fla., a sister, Louise Upchurch, Lawrenceville; and grandchildren, Sara, Ross, Kathryn, and James. Memorial donations may be made to the Southwest Christian Hospice, Union City, Ga.
