He was preceded in death by his wife of 40 years, Luci Kluisza Szydzik, a son, Paul Szydzik, and a brother, Frank Szydzik. He served in the United States Navy as a radioman in the Pacific on the U. S. S. Thetis Bay in World War II. Services were at the Griffin Funeral home, Westland, Mich., with interment at St. Hedwigs Cemetery. Survivors include a son, John and Rona Szydzik, Brighton, Mich.; daughters, Debbie and Tom Hunt, Peachtree City, and Cindy and Andy Arena, Macon; grandchildren, Tommy and Michelle Hunt, Eric Arena, Andy Arena and Tony Arena, John Szydzik, Jacob Szydzik, and Jay Szydzik; brothers, Leonard Szydzik, Michigan, and Ray Szydzik, Ohio; and sisters, Martha Mardeusz, and Gertrude Koslakiewicz, both of Michigan. She was born Sept. 18, 1922 in Richland County, S. C. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Caton. Memorial services were at Christ Our Hope Lutheran Church with Jeffery Halenza officiating. Ralph Woodrow Whittemore Ralph Woodrow Whittemore, 87, Fayetteville, died July 6, 2004.He was born Oct. 14, 1916 in Gordon County, Ga., son of the late James William and Willie Padgett Whittemore. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Harris Whittemore. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in World War II in the European Theater. He was a graduate of Georgia State University. He was retired from General Motors Corporation in the accounting department. He was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Pilgrim officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Cartersville. Survivors include a brother, Glenn Whittemore, Decatur; and sisters, Grace Roberson, Norfolk, Va., Dell Hunt, Dalton, and Sara Gill, Decatur. Kenneth M. Patterson Kenneth M. Pat Patterson, colonel retired, 69, Peachtree City, died July 6, 2004. He was born April 22, 1935 in Johnson City, Tenn. He was the son of the late W. M. and Nell Blackburn Patterson. He was a graduate of East Tennessee State University and was a member of the United States Army Reserve Officers Training Corps. He served in the Dominican Republic, completed two tours of duty in Vietnam, served three years at the Pentagon, served at FORSCOM Headquarters, Ft. McPherson, Georgia, where he retired from the United States Army, June 12, 1986, with 30 years of active duty. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Peachtree City, where served on the board of directors for several years. He was chairman of its fund-raising committee at the time of his death. He received the George F. Hixon Fellowship from Kiwanis International in 1996. He was a member of Flat Creek Golf Club and the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Peachtree City with the Rev. Dr. Steve Bingham officiating. Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Barbara Silcox Patterson, Peachtree City; daughters, Terry and Jeff Morgan, Peachtree City, and Kerry and Marshall Fitzgerald, Charlotte, N. C.; brothers, Ronald M. Patterson, Manassas, Va., and Charles R. Patterson, Johnson City, Tenn.; sisters, Virginia Staten, Laurel, Md., and Dianne Barker, Johnson City, Tenn; and grandchildren, Monserrat Morgan, Peachtree City, and Covey Fitzgerald, and Samuel Fitzgerald, both of Charlotte, N. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Odel Keheley, a son, Alpha Parks, and mother, Florence Butler. Services were at the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Tom Pilgrim, the Rev. Maria Wells, and the Rev. W. Jack Lamb officiating. Interment was at Mellwood Cemetery, Stone Mountain, Ga. Survivors include a daughter, Charlcie and Pete Neal, Hampton; grandchildren, Cece and Tom Doub, Tennessee, Chuck and Jill Neal, Jonesboro, and Billy and Stephanie Neal, Athens; and three great-grandsons.
