James L. Stroud, 81, Union City, formerly of Riverdale, died May 24, 2002. He was born Jan. 24, 1921 in Ashville, Ala. He had served in the United States Marines in World War II. Services were at the First Baptist Church of Tyrone with the Rev. Farren Roper officiating. Interment was at the Sharon Memorial Gardens, Tyrone. Survivors include sons, Jimmy Stroud, Sharpsburg, Norman Stroud, Newnan, Mike Stroud, Savannah, Ga., and Steve Stroud, Dallas, Ga.; a daughter, Camellia Anne Masdon, Fairburn; a sister, Brenda Fleming, Ft. Walton, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.
Helen Jaros
Helen Jaros, 92, Newnan, died May 27, 2002. She was born May 27, 1910 in Massachusetts, the daughter of Teofil and Emelia Jeromin. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Walter Jaros Sr., and a son, Walter Jaros Jr. She attended school in the Massachusetts area and worked as a secretary her first year out of school, and spent most of her married life there. She retired from Colonial Press Company after 22 years. She enjoyed needlework, knitting and crocheting and making Christmas stockings. She was a devout Catholic who prayed her rosary daily and was a member of St. George Catholic Church A funeral mass was held at St. George Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Stephen Lynos officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Newnan. Survivors include a son, Theodore and Helen Jaros, Scottsdale, Ariz.; a daughter, Mary and Salvatore Cali, Newnan; a sister, Stephanie Warden, East Dennis, Mass; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Lula Knott
Lula B. Knott, 99, Clanton Ala., formerly of Newnan, died May 30, 2002. She was born July 26, 1902 in Hall County, the daughter of Wiley and Martha Welborn. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Newnan. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 year, William W. Knott, a son, Willie Lee Knott, and a daughter, Ruby Inez New. Graveside services were at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, with Pastor Terry Calhoun officiating. Survivors include a son, J. P. Knott, Newnan; daughters, Margie Edwards, Clanton, Ala., and Gloria Stanton, Bennettsville, S. C.; 10 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren. Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
Eugene Pope
Eugene H. ” Geno” Pope, 46, Newnan, died June 1, 2002. He was born Dec. 25, 1955 in Newnan. He had been employed at Yamaha Motor Co., in maintenance for 13 years and attended Crossroads Baptist Church. Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Tony Ashmore and the Rev. John Riley officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan. Survivors include his wife, Juanita Pope, Newnan; daughters, Katie Pope and Lisa Pope, both of Newnan; a brother, Tommy and Chris Pope, Meansville; a sister, Patricia and Dale Bowling, Newnan; parents, Howard and Eloise Pope, Meansville; and in-laws, Danny and Wynell Hornsby, Newnan. Minister John Yost
Minister John Thomas Yost, 69, Newnan, died June 4, 2002 after an extended illness. He was born April, 1933, in Tazewell County, Va., the son of William and Olive Yost. He was graduated from Graham High School, Bluefield, Va. After graduating he began his career as in accounting with the Guilford County Administration Office before being called to the ministry. He completed his masters in Theology at the Emmanuel School of Religion, Johnson City, Tenn. Services were at the Jones Funeral Home chapel with Minister Edward Herron officiating. Interment was at Rose Lawn Cemetery, Princeton, W. Va. Survivors include his wife, Betty C. Yost, Newnan; sons, Richard E. and Diane Yost, Knoxville, Tenn., and Randy and Lynn Yost, Thomasville, N. C.; brothers, James Yost, Greensboro, N. C., and Arnold Yost, Bluefield, Va.; and grandchildren, David, Heather, and Isaac. Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.
