Ruth Johnson

Ruth Trevarthen Johnson, 93, Newnan, formerly of Union City, died March 8, 2002. She was born Oct. 11, 1908 in Pratt City, Jefferson County, Ala., the daughter of Thomas and Isabella Trevarthen. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe M. Johnson, a daughter, Carolyn Neubauer, and a grandson, L. C. “Chip” Williams.
Graveside services were at Westview Cemetery, Atlanta, with the Rev. George Wannamaker officiating.
Survivors include a daughter, Marcia and Lockwood Williams, Newnan; grandchildren, Debbie and Chuck Pace, and Leslie and Jon Wade, all of Fayetteville, Steve and Beth Newbauer, Clarksville, Tenn., and Richard Neubauer, Nashville, Tenn.; and great-grandchildren, Chris and Jennifer Pace, Catilin and Shannon Wade, and Hunter Neubauer.
Memorial donations may be made to Southwest Christian Hospice, 7225 Lester Road, Union City, GA 30291.

J. Howard Smith

J. Howard Smith, 85, Newnan, died Feb. 27, 2002. He was born Oct. 30, 1916 in Kings County, N. Y. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan McGovern Smith.
Survivors include his children, Ken Smith and Don Smith, both of Colo., Kathleen Myers, Texas, Carolyn McMakin and Joanne Lowey, both of Georgia, and Terri Gaither, Wis.; 12 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
Cremation Society of the South was in charge.

Marie Barnes

Marie Barnes, 88, Newnan, died March 11, 2002. She was born Aug. 10, 1913 in Coweta County. She was preceded in death by her husband, W. T. Barnes.
Graveside services were at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with the Rev. Gene Tyre officiating.
Survivors include nephews and nieces.

Thomas Winkles

Thomas R. Winkles, 52, Moreland, died March 11, 2002. He was born Nov. 4, 1949 in Coweta County, the son of Joseph L. Winkles and Emma Hill. He was a cashier at Nifty Foods, Grantville.
Services were at the Martin-Hightower Hillcrest chapel, Newnan, with the Rev. Tim Taffer officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Newnan.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Estep Winkles; a daughter, Stephanie and Jack Mapp, Newnan, his father, Joe Winkles, Newnan; a brother, Jack Winkles, Duluth; and a grandchild, Zack Mapp.
Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, was in charge.

Ford Meatows

Ford Meatows, 77, Haralson, died March 12, 2002. He was born July 6, 1924 in Easley, Ky. He was the retired owner of a long haul trucking company.
Graveside services were at Southview Cemetery, Moreland, with the Rev. L. B. Rooks officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Virginia Meatows, Haralson, sons, Ricky Duffey, Fayetteville, Jeff and Doris Meatows, Newnan, and Dennis Robinson, Peachtree City; and a sister, Helen Carter, Madisonville, Ky.

Zollie Cole

Zollie Glennis Cole, 84, Sharpsburg, died march 12, 2002. He was born Aug. 26, 1917 in Paulding County, Ga. He had served in the United States Army in World War II. He was a retired route inspector for the United States Postal Service.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral chapel with the Rev. Ted O. Padgett officiating. Interment was at Fairview Memorial Gardens, Stockbridge.
Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Johnson Cole, Sharpsburg; a son, Kenneth and Colleen Cole, Marietta; a daughter, Susan and Fred Harris, Atlanta; sisters,
Kenneth Ridley, Sharpsburg, and Mary Watts, Woodstock; and grandchildren, Chelsea Cole, Marietta, and Jeff and Tracy Howard, Atlanta.
Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Senoia, 105 Miller Court, Senoia, GA 30276.

Norman Bowie

Norman Eugene Bowie, 72, Newnan, died March 13, 2002. He was born Sept. 10, 1929 in Newnan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Mary Bowie, and a sister, Martha Collins. He had served in the United States Army in the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Sunnyside Baptist Church. He was a retired salesman with Stovall Chevrolet.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. F. D. McWhorter officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.
Survivors include his wife, Belvelyn Bowie, Newnan; sons, Todd and Sheryl Bowie and Chris Bowie, all of Newnan, Mike and Carrie Bowie, Maryville, Tenn., and Steve and Debbie Bowie, Moreland; a brother, Horace Bowie, Holly Springs, Ga., sisters, Linda Barnett, Hiram and Roma Christie, Monticello; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mary Davidson

Mary K. Davidson, 90, Newnan, died March 13, 2002. She was born Feb. 16, 1912 in Fulton County.
Services were at the Sardis Baptist Church, Palmetto, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Cross, the Rev. Tom Gullatt, the Rev. Searcy Jackson and the Rev. Dr. Bobby Helton officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Survivors include nephews and nieces.
