Oscar Slaton

Oscar Raymond Slaton, 91, Webster, Texas, died Jan. 8, 2002. He was born June 14, 1910 in Fayette County, the son of Walter Millard and Jessie Handley Slaton. He was preceded in death by wives, Ruby Pitts and Alma Cato, and a daughter-in-law, Jimmie Chambers Slaton. He was a member for over 50 years at the Coweta Masonic Lodge No. 60 and the Newnan Royal Arch Masons, Chapter No. 34. He moved to Houston, Texas in 1997, after living in Newnan for many years. He had numerous and artistic talents involving wood carving, whittling, and detailed toothpick renderings of many Newnan landmark buildings.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel, Newnan, with the Rev. O. C. Collins and the Rev. Joe Strickland officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, with full Masonic rites.
Survivors include a son, W. M. “Bill” Slaton and his longtime partner, Maggie Wiebe; a grandson, Scott and Cynthia Slaton; a granddaughter, Megan Odessa Slaton; step-grandson, David Wiebe; great-granddaughters, Emily Slaton and Miranda Slaton; a brother, Eugene and Charlotte Slaton; and a sister, Velma White.

Bethel White

Bethel Mae White, 85, Newnan, died Jan. 16, 2002. She was born Dec. 12, 1916 in Coweta County. She had been employed in quality control.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Joe Strickland officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.
Survivors include a son, Bobby D. White, Holden, Mo.; a daughter, Sherry Lynn Martin, Richmond, Ind.; brothers, David Kee, Jonesboro, and Lera Kee, Grantville; sisters, Lourette McCollun, Hogansville and Martha Boone, Newnan; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Richard DuPree

Richard Thomas “Tommy” DuPree, 55, Newnan, died Jan. 17, 2002. He was born July 26, 1946 in Hapeville, Fulton County.
Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Ralph Bobo and the Rev. Ken Norton officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Ann DuPree, Newnan; sons, Barry DuPree, Luthersville, James Johnson, Dallas, Texas, Gregory Johnson, Waleska, Ga., and Shane Johnson, Dunwoody; a daughter, Deborah Denney, Newnan; brothers, Chuck DuPree, Larry DuPree, Jack DuPree, Bobby DuPree and Mark DuPree; sisters, Cathryn Collins, and Millie DuPree; and six grandchildren.
Parrott Funeral Home was in charge.

Eva Kee

Eva Jones Kee, 76, Newnan, died Jan. 17, 2002. She was born April 29, 1925 in Hiawassee, Ga. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Clinton Kee, a brother, E. J. Jones, and a grandson, Harley Kee. She was retired from the Newnan plant of International Playtex.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Winston Skinner officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Survivors include sons, Charles and Carolyn Kee, LaGrange, Danny and Mattie Kee and Harold and Nancy Kee, all of Newnan; a daughter, Karey and John Murphy, Luthersville; a sister, Alta and Benny Jordan, Tampa, Fla.; 21 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Annette Turner

Annette Turner, 64, Haralson, died Jan. 18, 2002. She was born May 8, 1934 in Coweta County, the daughter of the late Willis and Irene Quick Womack, and a brother, Willis Quick Jr. She was retired as a group leader at NCR, Peachtree City. She was a member of the Cathedral of Praise, Digby, Ga.
Services were at the Haralson Baptist Church with the Rev. Donnie Smith officiating. Interment was at the church cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, B. L. Turner, Haralson; sons, Barney and Cara Turner, Alvaton, Terry and Donna Turner, Greenville, and Todd and Stacy Turner, Haralson; a daughter, Cathy Jones, Haralson; mother-in-law, Ethel Turner, Haralson; brothers, James Quick, Paul Quick and Roy Quick, all of Senoia; a sister, Peggy Camp, Grantville; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, was in charge.

Allie Cochran

Allie B. Cochran, 94, Newnan, died Jan. 19, 2002. She was born Jan. 12, 1908 in Newnan. She was preceded in death by a son, Joe Cochran.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. F. D. McWorter and the Rev. David Arrington officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include sons, Clarence and Judy Cochran, and Johnny and Sandy Cochran, all of Newnan, and Pete and Burnice Cochran, Sargent; daughters, Nettie and Billy James King, Newnan, and Frances and Wendell Thompson, Sargent; brothers, Henry Carroll, Newnan, and John Carroll, Marietta; a sister, Annie Cochran, Newnan; 14 grandchildren; and 28 great-grandchildren.

Ada Caldwell

Ada Caldwell, 88, Newnan, died Jan. 19, 2002. She was born Jan. 25, 1913 in Harris County, Ga. She had been a secretary at General Motors.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Dr. Gene Tyre officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.
Survivors include a nephew, John Caldwell Jr., Newnan; six nephews; four nieces; 15 great-nephews; nine great-nieces; six great-great nephews; 10 great-great- nieces; two great-great-great-nephews; and three great-great-great- nieces.
