James Harold Newton

James Harold Newton, 77, Fairburn, died July 31, 2002. He was born March 5, 1925 in Fayette County, the son of Ellis Leslie and Mary Turnek Newton. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Newton. Services were at the McDonough Road Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. David Chancey, the Rev. David Smith, the Rev. Dr. J. W. Wallis, and Chaplain Ernie Hinson officiating. Interment was at Flat Creek Baptist Church, Fayetteville. Survivors include a daughter, Teresa and Don Baldwin, Ellenwood; brothers, J. C. and Christine Newton and Weyman and Frances Newton, all of Fayetteville; sisters, Mae Palmer, Margie and Hugh Dobbins, and Myra and Harvey Melear, all of Fairburn; and grandchildren, Don Baldwin, Lisa Baldwin and Laura Baldwin. Memorial donations may be made to the McDonough Road Baptist Church Building Fund, 352 McDonough Road, Fayetteville, GA 30215. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Raymond Cecil Smith

Raymond Cecil ‘R. C.’ Smith, 73, Fayetteville, died Aug. 5, 2002. He was born Aug. 19, 1928 in Fulton County. He had driven a truck for 35 years and retired as a former vice president of the Teamster's Local #728. He attended Ben Hill Baptist, Second Baptist of College Park and Fayetteville First Baptist churches. Services were at the Parrott Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Glenn Stringham officiating. Interment was at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lillie F. “Kitty” Smith, Fayetteville; sons, Raymond D. Smith, Fayetteville, and Stan Smith, Newnan; daughters, Roslyn Crider, Union City, and Darlene Smith, Fairburn; grandsons, Allen Sommers, James Odom, and Corey Smith; and a sister, Georgina Wilson McClure, Fairburn. Parrott Funeral Home, Fairburn, was in charge.

Robert Warren Weaver

Robert Warren Weaver, 79, Forest Park, Ga., died Aug. 8, 2002. He was born Sept. 5, 1922 in Fulton County. Services were at the Parkway Garden Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Haag and the Rev. Doug Lawson officiating. Interment was at the College Park Cemetery. Survivors include his wife, Bernice Weaver, Forest Park; sons, Robert G. Weaver, Fayetteville, and Michael Gothard, Jonesboro; daughters, Edna Louise Lyles, Westminster, S. C., Janice Elaine Cochran, Ellenwood, Ga., and Lynn Ellen Carlson, Havelock, N. C.; two grandson; and seven granddaughters. Parkway Garden Chapel, Forest Park, was in charge.

Charles Irvin Johnson

Charles Irvin “C. J.” Johnson, 52, Jonesboro, died Aug. 10, 2002. He was born Feb. 2, 1950 in Fulton County. He had a love for karate and rock ‘n’ roll music and was a 3rd degree black belt. He also was the keyboard/trumpet player for the band, Phoenix. He had also served in the United States Air Force. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Dr. Carl Hart officiating. Survivors include his wife, Brenda Johnson, Jonesboro; daughters, Summer and Ralph Costley, Locust Grove, and Haley Anderson, Jonesboro; a granddaughter, Shelby Anderson; father, Charles and Elizabeth Johnson, Fayetteville; mother, Betty Ann Moore, Florida; brothers, Robert R. Johnson, Park City, Utah, and George D. Johnson, and Paul T. Johnson, both of Peachtree City; and a sister, Amanda Lynn Johnson, Peachtree City. Memorial donations may be made to the Hope House at Southwest Christian Hospice. Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge.

Joseph Clement Stone

Joseph Clement “Joe” Stone, 90, Fayetteville, died Aug. 11, 2002. He was born Feb. 25, 1912 in Clarke County, Georgia. He had worked for the Soil Conservation of Georgia and was retired from Delta Airlines with 33 years of service. He was a member of the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church and the Fellowship Sunday School Class. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Mayla Stone, Fayetteville; a sister, Dorothy and Jack Tappan, Athens; a nephew, William and Vivian Stone Jr., Fayetteville; and great-nephews and nieces, Debbie and Jeff Kilgore, Fayetteville, Pam and Robert Keown, Valdosta, and Bill and Lisa Stone, Stockbridge.
