Laura Campbell

Laura “Leanna” Campbell, 3, Sugar Hill, Ga., died April 3, 2002. She was born April 26, 1999 and had fought for three years with a terminal illness affecting her mitochondria. Graveside services were held at the Green Lawn Cemetery, Roswell, followed by a Celebration of Life service at Perimeter Church, Duluth. Survivors include her parents, Alex and Jennifer Campbell, Sugar Hill; a sister, Lizzie-K; paternal grandparents, Robert and Sherrell Campbell, Peachtree City; maternal grandparents, Ricky and Lynda Dill, Alpharetta; maternal great-grandparents, Jimmy and Joyce Dill, Duluth, and Vera Durden, Hawkinsville. Lula M. Johnson

Lula M. Johnson, 79, Union City, died April 3, 2002. She was born Jan. 15, 1923 in Marshal County, Ala. Services were at Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home chapel with interment at Forest Lawn, College Park. Survivors include children, Linda Derrick, Jonesboro, Ronnie and Angela Johnson, Fayette County; grandchildren, Tami Hurst, Jennifer and Matt Lee, Chris Davis, and Debra Derrick; great-grandchildren, Chad Hurst and Cameron Davis; a brother, Bud Moore, Fife, Ala.; and a sister, Betty Bare, Acworth. Frances C. Croft

Frances C. Croft, 89, Fayetteville, formerly of Ocklocknee, Ga., died April 3, 2002. Memorial services were at the Ocklocknee United Methodist Church with interment at the church cemetery. Survivors include her son, Larry E. and Linda Croft, Fayetteville; grandchildren, Beth and Gene Bunn, Barnesville, and Adam and Stacy Croft, Senoia; great-grandchildren, Peyton Bunn, Barnesville, and Connor Croft, Senoia; and sisters, Mary Deane Smith, Vidalia, and Lois Lehtonon, South Windsor, Conn. Memorial donations may be made to the Ocklocknee United Methodist Church. Carmichael-Hemperley, Peachtree City, was in charge.

Michael J. Farrell

Michael J. Farrell, 81, Peachtree City, died April 9, 2002. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army. He was a retired executive with United Way in Michigan with 33 years service, was a Salvation Army officer for 10 years in five states, and also an executive director of the American Red Cross in Michigan. He was a member of the Meridian Sun Masonic Lodge #26 F&AM, Griffin, and a member of the Peachtree City Kiwanis Club. Services were at the Carmichael-Hemperley chapel with the Rev. Chuck Hodges and the Rev. Betsy Haas officiating. Interment was at Arlington Memorial Park, Atlanta, with full Masonic rites. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Imogene Farrell, Peachtree City; sons, Michael F. and Mary Farrell, Mars Hill, N. C., and Daniel B. Farrell, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Shannon and Glenn Black, Michael Farrell, and Robin Farrell; great-grandchildren, Nicholas Black, and Ian Black; sisters-in-law, Geraldine Kincaid, Live Oak, Fla., Lottie Gowan, and Juanita and Weldon Martin, all of Griffin. Dot Chaney Phillips

Dot “Sis” Chaney Phillips, 77, Fayetteville, formerly of Kings Mountain, N. C., died April 12, 2002. She was born May 28, 1924 in Cleveland County, N.C., the daughter of the late Rev. Roger L. and Winnie Moss Chaney. She was also preceded in death by brothers, Grady Chaney, Robert Chaney and Johnny Chaney; and a sister, Lucille Gladden. She was a charter member of the Eastside Baptist Church, Kings Mountain. Services were at the Second Baptist Church, Kings Mountain, N. C. with the Rev. Richard Prow, the Rev. Eugene Land and the Rev. Jerry Milwood, officiating. Interment was at Mountain Rest Cemetery, Kings Mountain. Survivors include a daughter, Teresa C. and Richard L. Hicks, Fayetteville; a brother, Jack Chaney, Kings Mountain; sisters, Martha Sue Rhea, Peggy Chaney, Loretta Chaney and Sherry Short, all of Kings Mountain, and Edith Milwood, Bessemer City; grandchildren, Lori and Steve Henson, Griffin, and Jason and Gena Hicks, Sharpsburg; and a great-grandchild, Makenzie Hicks. Lucy Harding Holt

Lucy Harding Holt, 93, Fayetteville, died April 13, 2002. She was born Sept. 1, 1908 in Tarboro, Edgecombe County, N. C., the daughter of the Rev. Fredrick Harrimon Harding, the rector of St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Milledgeville, Ga., from 1924 to 1954. She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Julius R. Holt Sr., who died in 1986. He had been a businessman and civic leader in Savannah. She was graduated from Georgia State College for Women, taught school at Georgia Military College and at Montessori school in New York City. Services were at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, Milledgeville with interment at Memory Hill Cemetery, Milledgeville. Survivors include a son, Julius Holt Jr., Peachtree City; a daughter, Lucy Anne Polan, Fayetteville; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Estelle Jett, Orangeburg, S. C. Carl J. Jane Colleen Newsome

Jane Colleen Newsome, 77, Fayetteville, died April 12, 2002. She was born Aug. 11, 1924 in St. Paul, Minn. She was graduated from MacAlester College, St. Paul. She was a 6th grade teacher for 32 years at the Mt. Olive Elementary School, East Point, and was an avid bridge player. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Carl Smith officiating. Interment was at the Brooks Memorial Cemetery. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Joe B. Newsome; a son, Michael William and Joyce A. Newsome, Fayetteville; a daughter, Pamela and David Koenig, Clemmons, N.C.; grandchildren, Timothy and Zachary Newsome, Matthew and Cameron Koenig, Heather Farrow and Michael Scuderi; and a brother, Richard and Jean Clarke, Minneapolis, Minn. Patricia Dale Peacock

Patricia Dale Peacock, 66, Brooks, died April 13, 2002. She was born Aug. 5, 1935 in Fulton County. She was preceded in death by a son, Darrell Blane Peacock, a grandson, Robert “Roby” Lee, and a sister, Christine Kraus. Services were at the Brooks United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dean Milford, the Rev. Steve Scoffield, and the Rev. Terry Tompkins officiating. Interment was at Camp Memorial Park, Fayetteville. Survivors include her husband, Wilbur H. Peacock, Brooks; a son, Dean and Debbie Peacock, Atlanta; a daughter, Dale Bobby Lee, Blue Ridge, Ga.; grandchildren, Jenny Lee, Valerie Lee, Will Lee and Jake Lee, Parks Peacock, and Lauren Hutchinson; a brother, Bill and Kathy Posey, Bristol, Va.; and a sister, Martha Jo Dirks, Georgia. Frank DeMarco Sr.

Frank DeMarco Sr., 71, Brooks, died April 16, 2002. He was born March 5, 1931 in Brooklyn, Kings County, N. Y. He was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa DePalo DeMarco. Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel with the Rev. Father Kevin Peek and the Rev. John Hamblin officiating. Survivors include a son, Frank DeMarco Jr., California; daughters, Teri and James Roth, Brooks, and Nancy and Richard Robertaccil, California; grandchildren, Michael Robertaccil and Matthew Robertaccil, both of California, and Nicole Roth, Christina Roth, Jamie Roth and Danielle Roth; and a brother, Robert Crews, Brooklyn, N. James F. O‘Shields

James F. O’Shields, 76, Fayetteville, died April 13, 2002. He was born July 26, 1925 in Fulton County. He was a member of the Campbellton Masonic Lodge #761, F&AM. Graveside services were at Holly Hill Memorial Park, Fairburn. Survivors include his wife, Edna O’Shields; a son, Jim and Helen O’Shields, Fayetteville, brothers, Lamar O’Shields, Douglasville, Charles O’Shields, Winter Haven, Fla., and Harold O’Shields, Senoia; a grandson, Michael O’Shields; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
