Thomas Howard Spivey

Thomas Howard Spivey, 81, Newnan died Sept. 25, 2001. He was born Feb. 1, 1920 in Coweta County, the son of Jack and Janie Spivey. He was preceded in death by a son, Jeff Spivey. He was a veteran of World War II, and spent over three years in the European theater under Gen. George S. Patton, Third Army, Fifth Infantry Division, as a heavy machine gun operator. He received several medals for exemplary service during the Normandy invasion and campaigns in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was a member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans and was an avid fisherman, farmer and carpenter. He was a retired supervisor from Beavers Packing Company and a long-time member of Bethlehem Baptist Church.
Services were at the Jones Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Joel Jones officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Newnan.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Helen Whitley Spivey, Newnan; sons Danny Spivey and Gary and Betty Spivey, all of Newnan; a daughter, Nancy Spivey and Louis Goddard, Newnan; brothers Bill and June Whitley, Kate and Harry Odom, Sam and Bernice Whitley, and Rachel and Ronnie Smith, all of Newnan; a sister, Imogene Taylor, Cleveland, Ga.; grandchildren Matt Goddard, T. J. Spivey, Tom Spivey and Ashley Spivey, all of Newnan, and a great-grandchild, Katelyn Spivey, Newnan.

Baby Steven Edward Pike

Baby Steven Edward Pike, Newnan, died at birth Sept. 27, 2001. He was named for his maternal grandfather, Stevens Larue Ponder, who died Sept. 8, 2000.
Services were at the Jones Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Clay Henry officiating.
Survivors include parents Bill and Viola Pike, Newnan; a brother, William Pike II, Newnan, and sisters Kristine Pike, Jennifer Pike and Megan Pike, all of Newnan.

Velma Strickland Eanes

Velma Strickland Eanes, 91, Newnan, died Sept. 28, 2001. She was born June 28, 1910 in Heard County, Ga. She was a retired textile worker.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Rick Duncan officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.
Survivors include sons Bill and Lorene Eanes, Pensacola, Fla., and Brent and Jean Eanes, Newnan; a daughter, Jan and Chick Reynolds, Newnan; grandchildren Greg and Vickie Marchman, Rhonda Eanes, Jim and Brenda Krochmal, Mike and Nancy Adams, Neal and Paula Van Devender, Bryan and Nancy Reynolds, and Scott and Laurie Reynolds; 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Ethel Lorraine Nelson

Ethel Lorraine Nelson, 77, Newnan, died Sept. 28, 2001. She was born Aug. 10, 1924 in Athens County, Ohio, the daughter of Lonnie and Dora Stover. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, William H. Nelson Sr., and a son, Larry G. Nelson. She had moved to Newnan due to ill health. She enjoyed fishing, crocheting, sewing and gardening.
Services were at the Souers-Cadaras Funeral Home, Nelsonville, Ohio, with the Rev. Lou Donnals officiating. Interment was at Greenlawn Memory Gardens, Nelsonville.
Survivors include sons William H. and Jean Nelson Jr., Arthur S. Nelson, Gary L. Nelson and David S. and Manuela Nelson; daughters Barbara S. and Allan Frizzell and Diana L. Nelson; a brother, Thomas Davidson; sisters Shirley Bush and Joan Bush; 22 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren.

Betty Mann

Betty Mann, 86, Newnan, died Sept. 29, 2001. She was born Sept. 16, 1915 in Bambera County, S.C.
Services were at Woodlawn Memorial, Orlando, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, James Mann III, Newnan; daughters Martha Hayllar, Ft. Myers, Fla., Betty Jane Kimsey, Newnan, and Judy Mann, Atlanta; brothers Laverne Thomas Jr., Alexandria, La., Leighton Thomas, St. Petersburg, Fla., and Maston Thomas, Port Charlotte, Fla.; sisters Julie Havell, Bartow, Fla. and Katie Hornack, Wilmington, N.C.; grandsons James Kimsey and Kyle Kimsey, both of Newnan, and granddaughters Cindee Daren, Atlanta, and Katie Kimsey, Newnan.

Nicolette “Nikki” Knight

Nicolette “Nikki” Knight, 63, Newnan, formerly of Fayetteville, died Sept. 30, 2001. She was born Jan. 3, 1938 in London, England, where she was reared and educated. She graduated from London Technical College with a degree in accounting. She was then employed as an accounting with Benniman and Sons, CPA firm, where she met her husband. They were married in Bedford, Bedforshire in April 1962 and moved to Fort Reed, Md., in June 1964.
She was retired from the Army Air Force Exchange Service in accounting in 1991. Her husband retired from Fort Gillam.
She was a member of Order of Eastern Star Coweta Chapter 378 and a member of the Peachtree City United Methodist Church.
Memorial services were at Jones Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Clay Jacobs officiating. Interment was at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery, Seale, Ala.
Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Gary Glenn Knight, Newnan; a daughter, Kristie and Scott Lowery, Norcross, and grandsons Mitchell Lowery and Charlie Lowery, both of Norcross.

Vincent Ben Cooper

Vincent Ben Cooper, 81, Senoia, died Sept. 30, 2001. He was born Nov. 10, 1918 in Fayette County, the son of Mose and Lillie Clyde Williford Cooper. He had served in the United States Army and was a carpenter.
Graveside services were at Bethel United Methodist Church, Senoia.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheila and Jack Guwin, Senoia; a brother, Mose Cooper, Toledo, Ohio; sisters Hazel Bonsel, Gastonia, N.C., and Vivian Styles, Bruno, Ark.; and grandchildren Douglas and Tina Guwin, Senoia, Scott and Tiffany Guwin, Sedro Wooley, Wash., and Warren and Sandy Guwin, Sharpsburg.
