Harold Garner Rowley, 81, died Aug. 26, 2001. He was born July 27, 1920 in Birmingham, Ala. He attended Birmingham Southern and served in the United States Air Force in World War II. He flew for Delta Airlines for 32 years beginning with the DC-3 and retiring as captain on the L-1011. For the past 43 years he lived in East Point and Fairburn.
Services were at College Park First United Methodist Church with the Rev. James C. McRae III and the Rev. Ray King officiating. Interment was at College Park Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Caroline Tiller Rowley; sons Tom W. Rowley, Douglasville, and Harold “Rip” G. Rowley III, Whitesburg; daughters Caroline R. and Dr. Robert G. Matheny, Norcross, and Robin A. and Peter Michael Payne Jr., Alpharetta; grandchildren Taylor Matheny, Matthew Matheny, Shannon Matheny, Courtney Payne, Caroline Payne, Carti Payne and Peter Michael Payne III; a sister, Anne Rowley Finstad, Sarasota, Fla.; a nephew, Maurice Olson, Los Angeles, Calif., and a niece, Paula Finstad, Sarasota, Fla.
Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home, East Point, was in charge.

Harvey Alton Norton

Harvey Alton Norton, 76, Newnan, died Aug. 27, 2001. He was born April 29, 1925 in Douglas County, to the late John Conner and Mattie Idora Willis Norton. He was a member of the Happy Hill Baptist Church and was retired from Bonnell Company.
Services were at Martin & Hightower Hillcrest Chapel with the Rev. Danny Wilson officiating. Interment was at Happy Hill Baptist Church Cemetery, Carroll County.
Survivors include daughters Judy and Bobby Anderson and Sarah and Pete Pope, all of Newnan, and Marie and Paul Charette, Marietta; a brother, Ralph Norton, Douglasville; a sister, Mae Johnson, Carrollton; seven grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
Martin & Hightower Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, was in charge.

Velma Lucille Parris

Velma Lucille Parris, 83, Doraville, died Aug. 28, 2001. She was born April 29, 1918 to John T. and Fannie P. Wilson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Albert Parris. They had married in Atlanta in 1933.
Services were at the Jones Funeral Home chapel, Newnan, with the Rev. Tom Shannon officiating. Interment was at College Park Cemetery.
Survivors include sons Horace J. Parris, Johnny M. Parris; daughters Betty Parris and Nora Mae Dalton; sisters, Bessie May Wilson, Gladys Wilson; six grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Jones Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Ella Gay Parks MacNabb

Ella Gay Parks MacNabb, 86, Newnan, died Aug. 28, 2001. She was born March 28, 1915 in the home where she died, one of three children of the late Joseph William and Rubie Lovejoy Parks. She was graduated from Newnan High School and attended the University of Georgia, where she was a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She was employed at the Newnan Times-Herald for over 30 years, serving as bookkeeper and as editor of the feature page, Today.
She was the granddaughter of a circuit-riding Methodist minister and was a devoted member of the First United Methodist Church of Newnan, where her name was placed on the cradle roll at her birth. For many years, she served as treasurer of the church and a teacher in the Sunday School.
Graveside services were at the Oak Hill Cemetery, in the older section known as the Old Presbyterian Cemetery, with the Rev. Gary Parrish officiating.
Survivors include sons Dr. George M. MacNabb Jr. and Joseph P. MacNabb, both of Newnan, and William C. MacNabb, Decatur; grandchildren Benjamin H. MacNabb, Amy MacNabb Hughes, Kathryn Patricia MacNabb, Mary Elizabeth MacNabb, and Joseph Parks MacNabb Jr., all of Newnan, Dr. Lisa MacNabb McGregor, Cordova, Tenn., Rachel L. MacNabb, Atlanta, Rebecca MacNabb Eyre, Calgary, Canada, and Sandra MacNabb Perry and Emily C. MacNabb, both of Decatur; and five great-grandchildren.
Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Newnan.
