James Cecil Smith

James Cecil Smith, 67, Newnan, died Sept. 5, 2000. He was born Oct. 20, 1932 in Coweta County, the son of Bud Berry and Ollie Mae Landers Smith. He was a veteran of the United States Marines having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the East Newnan Baptist Church.
He had worked as a manager for Dairy Queen for 16 years and at John Weiland Home as a construction manager for eight years. He had served as an umpire for the Coweta Recreation Department. He received a degree from Carroll Tech in Heating and Air Conditioning and taught at the rifle club at Fairmont School. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the Moose Lodge.
Services were at the Hillcrest Chapel with the Rev. Franklin Treadwell and the Rev. Frank Powers officiating. Interment was at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Newnan.
Survivors include his wife, Neva Smith, Newnan; children Elvis Smith, Lenny Smith, Kim Ashmore, Berry Smith and Bill Smith, all of Newnan; brothers George B. Smith, Nashville, Tenn., Jacko Smith Sr., Eufala, Ala., Jett Smith, Newnan, Tony Smith, Summersville, Ga. and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Barrows, Newnan; sisters Irene Boynton, Clara McKoy and Sandra Brown, all of Newnan, Opal Owens and Mildred Thomas, both of Nashville, Tenn.; and a sister-in-law, Corey Johnson, Centre, Ala.
There are 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, was in charge of the arrangements.

John Charles Anderson

Lt. Col. (retired) John Charles Anderson, 65, Fayetteville, died Sept. 8, 2000. He was born Nov. 19, 1934 in DuPage, Ill.
He was in the United States Army for 20 years.
Services were at the Carl J. Mowell Chapel, Fayetteville, with the Rev. Dr. Sam Matthews officiating. Interment was at Arlington National Cemetery, Virginia.
Survivors include his wife, Gaye Anderson, Fayetteville; a son, Jim and Kim Anderson, Atlanta; a daughter, Amy and Brent Dye, Sharpsburg; a grandson, Dustin James Dye, Sharpsburg; a granddaughter, Liza Beth Dye, Sharpsburg; a sister, Darlene and William Eicher, Gardens, Calif.; a sister-in-law, Kimi Anderson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and a niece, Samantha Anderson, Manitou Springs, Colo.
Memorial donations may be made to the Fayetteville First United Methodist Church Building Fund.

William “Doyle” Cain

William “Doyle” Cain, 72, Senoia, died Sept. 7, 2000. He was born June 1, 1928 in Cherokee County, Ga.
Services were at the Carl J. Mowell chapel, Fayetteville, with pastor Chris Bowen officiating. Interment was at Brooks Memorial Cemetery, Brooks, Ga.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret P. Cain, Senoia; a child, Betty and Michael Murray, Hampton; his mother, Jennie Mae Cain, Decatur; a brother, Joe and Martha Cain, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and sisters Dorothy Ward, Smyrna, and Hazel and Ben Turner, Birmingham, Ala.

Lynwood Slaughterm “Lyndy” Beers

Lynwood Slaughterm “Lyndy” Beers, 65, Florence, Ala. died Sept. 11, 2000. He was born in Coweta County, Ga.
Graveside services were at the Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan, with the Rev. Dr. Joel Richardson officiating.
Survivors include his wife, Joann Beers, Florence, Ala.; and his mother, Ruth Beers, Florence, Ala.

Thomas Bradley

Thomas Bradley, 61, Newnan, died Sept. 14, 2000. He was born Sept. 26, 1938 in Sumpter, S.C. He was a retired accountant and a member of the First Baptist Church of Newnan.
Memorial services were at the First Baptist Church of Newnan with the Rev. Dr. Gene Tyre officiating.
Survivors include his sisters, Lorraine Hogan, Ellenwood, Ga., and Anna Segars, Alpharetta, Ga.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Lung Association, or the First Baptist Church of Newnan.

Nell Robinson

Nell Robinson, 81, Newnan, died Sept. 16, 2000. She was born Nov. 8, 1918 in Newnan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter E. Robinson Jr. She was a veteran of the United States Army, where she served as an army nurse.
Graveside services were at Emory Chapel United Methodist Church, Newnan.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia Louise and Bill Eady, Newnan; a nephew, Roy Wade Eady; and a niece, Virginia Pruitt.

Mattie Lou Payton

Mattie Lou Payton, 90, Newnan, died Sept. 18, 2000. She was born March 17, 1910 in Newnan. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sara Helen Boyd.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Carl Calhoun officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.
Survivors include a son, Alton and Jill Payton, Sharpsburg; a daughter, Marjorie Phillips, Newnan; and a brother, Solomon Calhoun, Newnan.
There are eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
