Rita Jean Davis

Rita Jean Davis, 53, Fayetteville, died Aug. 10, 2000. She was born April 17, 1947 in Overton County, Tenn. She was a teacher at Brooks Elementary School.
Services were at Christ’s Church Presbyterian, Alpine, Tenn. with the Rev. Dale Weldon officiating. Interment was at Red Hill Cemetery, Tenn.
Survivors include her husband, Denver Davis, Fayetteville; a son, Brian Davis, Peachtree City; a daughter, Melanie and Marc Fabre, Newnan; mother Chloe Beaty, Alpine, Tenn.; brothers Rex Beaty, Seattle, Wash., Clifton Beaty, Hixson, Tenn., and David Beaty, Alpine, Tenn; and sisters Jessie Linder, Deanna Linder and Sue Ruble, all of Alpine, Tenn.
Memorial donations may be made the Covenant Presbyterian Church Building Fund, Kindergarten Ministries.
Carl J. Mowell & Son Funeral Home, Fayetteville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Anne Breed

Anne Breed, 71, Newnan, died Aug. 13, 2000. She was born Nov. 19, 1928 in Newnan. She was a retired bookkeeper at the Newnan Country Club.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Dr. O. Eugene Tyre officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.
Survivors include her husband, Bill Breed, Newnan; a daughter, Patty and Michael Caudell, Augusta, Ga.; a brother, Harvey Witcher, Mentone, Calif.; sisters Eleanor Bridges, Sharpsburg, Frances McDowell, Powder Springs, and Jenelle Watson, Montgomery, Ala.; and a grandson, Andrew Caudell, Augusta, Ga.
McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

John Andrew “Tommy” Thompson

John Andrew “Tommy” Thompson, 85, East Point, died Aug. 17, 2000. He was born Nov. 23, 1914 in Newnan, Ga. He had served in the United States Army.
Services were at the McKoon Funeral Home chapel with interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.
Survivors include a brother, Aaron D. Thompson, Hogansville; and a sister, Edna L. Warren, Stone Mountain, Ga.

Thomas “Rollie” Steele

Thomas “Rollie” Steele, 51, Sharpsburg, died Aug. 19, 2000. He was born dec. 16, 1948 in Panama City, Fla., the son of Leon and Edna Farmer Steele. He was a regional manager for Bearings & Drive.
Services were at the Hillcrest Chapel.
Survivors include his wife Pat Steele, Sharpsburg; mother Edna Steele, Gadsden, Ala.; son Chuck Cass, Decatur; daughter Dawn Goodholm, Jacksonville, Fla.; grandson Evan Yancey Cass, Decatur; a brother, Mark Steele, Gadsden, Ala.; and sisters Diann Steele, Salt Lake City, Utah, Mary Steele Day and Pam Steele, both of Gadsden, Ala.
Martin and Hightower Hillcrest Chapel, Newnan, was in charge.

Ruth Welch

Ruth Welch, 87, Newnan, died Aug. 20, 2000. She was born Dec. 22, 1912 in Sharpsburg, Ga. She was a graduate of Starr High School and LaGrange College. She started a nursery school in 1947 and operated it for several years. She then joined the Newnan Times-Herald and was its society editor for 33 years. She was a member of the Newnan Presbyterian Church for 66 years.
Graveside services were at Oak Hill Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Harry Barrow officiating.
Survivors include her husband of almost 66 years, Theron Welch, Newnan; a son, Mr. and Mrs.. T. Stacy Welch Jr., Columbus, Ga.; a daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Otis Jones Jr., Newnan; grandchildren Mr. and Mrs. Otis Jones III, Newnan, Montina Welch and Ruth Ann Welch, both of Columbus, Ga., and Theron Welch III, Denver, Co.; and great-grandchildren Cole Jones and Garrett Jones, both of Newnan.
McKoon Funeral Home, Newnan, was in charge.

Catherine Virginia Spinks

Catherine Virginia Spinks, 70, Grantville, formerly of Newnan, died Aug. 20, 2000. She was born Jan. 4, 1930 in Coweta County, Ga., the daughter of Charlie and Dollie Wortham Robison. She was a retired office manager for Ivan Allen.
Services were at the Hillcrest Chapel with the Rev. Gene Minix and the Rev. Tony Sullivan officiating. Interment was at Oak Hill Cemetery, Newnan.
Survivors include a son, Sandy Spinks, Moreland; a daughter, Dollie Evans, Grantville; brothers Charlie Robison and Fred Robison, both of Newnan; a sister, Louise Jones, Newnan; a brother-in-law, Joe Brown, Newnan; and grandchildren Steven Spinks, Matt Spinks, Jason Mill and Justin Miller, all of Moreland, and Jennifer Evans and Katie Evans, both of Grantville.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 27 Clark St., Newnan 30263.
