Last week, John Munford wrote an article (“Who needs W. F’ville Bypass?”) that I found very disappointing. Disappointing because Mr. Munford is usually so much better with his work. Not because of anything that was in the article, but because of the bias that was so evident.

If you have money to invest, I think that all of you would demand that anyone you have managing those funds would have to be someone you trust totally. Within some level of reasonableness, that should apply for any government as well.

With my background, I usually don’t try to look into the future; it is not a useful venture for a scientist. However, my involvement with the strange process that is taking place with the West Fayetteville Bypass has led me to the following scenario for events surrounding this unfortunate project.

I have become concerned about our current leadership and their strange application of what might otherwise be identified as common sense.

When considering the Fayetteville Bypass, there is one easy concept that, hopefully, even our current crop of Fayette County Commissioners can understand.

During my 50 or so years of experience with environmental issues, I have often witnessed how the public perception of such issues varied. Lately, environmental protection has once again been reduced as an issue of concern, at least for some of our politicians.

Normally I try to present my opinions and back them up with as much of a scientific basis as possible. But this time, the Peachtree City approach to planning the cart path to the bridge over Flat Creek defies description and understanding.

Recent discussions by the City Council of Peachtree City and the board of directors for the Peachtree City Water and Sewer Authority (WASA) have taken place regarding an effort to provide sewer service to Tyrone.

A very disappointing thing happens to some of our elected officials when it comes to protection of our environment. Right up until they have to vote to spend extra money to make sure that adequate protective measures have been taken, they will say a lot of the right words about how they do everything possible to maintain a healthy environment. But for some, standing by their words and doing the right thing is not so easy.
