Seniors can apply for PTC tax breakFri, 01/08/2010 - 5:09pm
By: John Munford
Starting this week Peachtree City residents 65 and over can pop by City Hall to register for the senior homestead exemption. The property tax exemption will reduce their city property taxes by $26. To qualify, participants must already be enrolled for the county’s homestead property tax exemption. Also, participants must have an annual household income of less than $30,000. Peachtree City residents must qualify each year to maintain the exemption. The deadline to file for the exemption is Feb. 26 at 5 p.m., but the city will continue to accept proof of income documents through April 23 for those who have not yet filed their tax returns, which are necessary to prove the resident’s income, officials said. The exemption was approved by voters in 2005. When the program began, the city estimated that roughly 1,570 households would qualify for an exemption. login to post comments |
