Sunday alcohol sales in Tyrone likely Jan. 1Fri, 11/13/2009 - 4:39pm
By: Ben Nelms
The Town of Tyrone with the support of approximately 57 percent of voters Nov. 3 should be set to begin Sunday alcohol sales on Jan. 1. “The move will help these businesses and will bring in additional revenue,” said Mayor Don Rehwaldt. Ballots cast in the November election showed 438 in support of Sunday sales and 332 opposed. Tyrone Town Clerk Pam Megill said Thursday that attorney Dennis Davenport is currently preparing a new ordinance to cover the voter-approved sales. The ordinance should be ready for council action in mid-December, including the hours on Sundays that sales are permitted, so that it can take effect Jan. 1, Megill said. Currently there are less than a half-dozen restaurants that would be eligible to serve alcohol on Sundays. login to post comments |
