Sams family honoredSouthern Conservation Trust honored the Sams family of Fayetteville at the nonprofit’s Fall Benefit “Growing Greenspace”, on Saturday Oct. 1 near Sharpsburg. The Sams Family donated a property known as “Sams Lake” to the Trust, which is now being restored to a wetland and will open in 2006 as a public bird sanctuary. Harper knows historyTyrone’s Rose Marie Harper knows a few things about history. At 78 years of age she has studied it, been apart of it, and now has written about it. She has spent the last ten years on her trilogy of historical novels entitled “The Legacy” which tells the story of her husband, Dr. Byron Harper’s family. The story is fiction but it is based on the realities of the times. Local resident making name in cult classic at Dad’s Garage“Don’t dream it, be it.” The Rocky Horror Show Fayetteville resident and Sandy Creek High School graduate Joey Ellington didn’t discover the theater until his freshman year of high school. Even then, he wasn’t thrilled with it until he was cast in the school’s production of ‘Little Shop of Horrors.” It was then that Ellington, now 20, fell in love with musical theatre and now he is in another musical with horror in the title. He plays Brad Majors in the Dad’s Garage production of “The Rocky Horror Show” and the musical has been getting good reviews and selling out most nights. Adopt-A-Park Program’s Fifth YearThe Peachtree City Parks and Recreation Department’s “Adopt-A-Park” Program is now in its fifth year with 41 individuals, groups or organizations participating. Katrina Relief Efforts Continue at Our Lady of MercyCommunity help continues for Gulf families registered at Our Lady of Mercy. OLM, assisted by the efforts of Mercy parents and parishioners from Holy Trinity Catholic Church, have come to the aid of almost 40 families who relocated in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. Efforts over the last several weeks have provided housing, clothing, furniture and counseling to some of the families. |
