Man indicted for murdering cousin

A Fayette County grand jury has indicted a south Fayette man for stabbing his cousin to death at a residence in north Fayette April 2.

Tommy Ingram, 51, of 128 Homers Place was indicted this week on one count of felony murder and another felony count of possession of a knife during the commission of a crime.

Police say Ingram stabbed and killed Terry Durham, 43, at a residence on Butler Road during an altercation between the two.

Ingram’s attorneys have argued that Ingram was merely defending himself from Durham, who struck him several times with a pipe. But when sheriff’s detectives got on scene, they found out that Ingram originally hid the knife.

Ingram later led detectives to the knife’s location and he was arrested that night. A second suspects, Michael Charles Phillips, was originally arrested for murder but the charges were dropped after it was determined that he merely took Durham to the residence to collect his belongings, police said.

Ingram told detectives that he was trying to keep Durham and Phillips from entering a bedroom in the house where a man and woman were.

One person who was in the room when the scuffle between Durham and Ingram took place told detectives he didn’t pay attention to the fight because the two cousins fought routinely, police said.
