Fayetteville man heads Ga. Probation Division

A Fayetteville man has been named the head of Georgia's probation system.

Michael W. Nail, who has been with the Department of Corrections since 1989, is now the state's Probation Division Director. He is responsible for managing nearly 2,000 state employees along with 121 field offices and 16 probation centers.

Nail has been assistant director of the probation division since 1999 and acting director of the division since May of this year. Previously he served as assistant manager of the probation training unit. He has also served as a probation officer, intensive probation officer and probation officer III/office manager in several judicial circuits.

"Mr. Nail is a corrections professional who has exhibited excellent leadership qualities throughout his career with the department," said acting commissioner Joe Ferrero. "He has performed magnificently as the Acting Director and I have full confidence in his abilities as he assumes the role permanently."

Nail and his wife, Candy, have two children: daughter Mackenzie and son Parker. The family is involved in church and community activities in Fayetteville.
