Amphitheater auction benefits Fayette's Special Olympics A special auction will be held during intermission of the Hall and Oates concerts at Frederick Brown, Jr. Amphitheater Friday and Saturday, Sept. 26-27. The auctions will benefit the Fayette County Special Olympics program. Two acoustic guitars, donated by Music and Art Center in The Avenue, have been autographed by every performer in the Webb, Lindsey and Wade Summer Concert Series I and Series II. These performers include Eddie Money, The Pointer Sisters, Village People, Doobie Brothers, Bobby Rydell, Pat Benatar, Peter Frampton, Wayne Newton, Micky Dolenz, Darryl Hall and John Oates. To further enhance their value, the package will include an album of pictures of each performer as they are signing the guitar for authenticity purposes. "Many people make donations to the Special Olympics; however, they don't realize that their money is going to the state or national programs and not staying here in Fayette County. One hundred percent of these proceeds will stay in Fayette County," said Donna Romeo, Amphitheater Director. "The total number of athletes participating in the Fayette County Special Olympics program has grown to 165 his past year. As the local program continues to grow it continues to need financial support." The Amphitheater staff including Jessica Romeo, Joel Dunnington, Julie Rushin and Peggy Schnitzer have taken the performers' pictures as they have signed each guitar in an effort to raise money for the Fayette County Special Olympics. Bill McDonald has graciously offered his services as auctioneer for the third consecutive year. The Hall and Oates concerts are sold out, but occasionally the band or press do not use all of their tickets and they will go on sale the night of each concert at 6 p.m. Tickets will be $45 each.
