Car wash agrees to all conditions, drawing up final site plan By MICHAEL
BOYLAN
The Target is still up in the air, but it looks like the car wash is coming. Peachtree City residents concerned about the development of Phase II and III of the Kedron Village Retail Center, especially near Georgian Park, gathered to participate in a workshop at the Peachtree City Planning Commission meeting Monday night. Before they started discussing that project, they got news on a proposed self-service car wash facility at the intersection of Georgian Park and Newgate Road. Initially declined by the Planning Commission, the developers and the city have reached a settlement and the car wash is moving forward with a final site plan. Omni Consulting agreed to all conditions put forth by the city, including a reduction in width of the entrance, additional landscaping, an enclosure at the end of the building and a timer on the vacuums. The final site plan does not have to be approved by the planning commission but it will be up for a final review by staff and a planning commission representative. It will come before the Planning Commission one more time for a review of the landscape plan, but, according to city planner David Rast, it is a done deal as far as the site plan goes. The car wash met vigorous opposition from local residents and Planning Commission members who felt that that, despite it being a proper use in general commercial zoning, the car wash would be very intrusive. With the conditions firmly in place, the car wash should be as little of an intrusion as possible. It will be a 24-hour, self service car wash but the lights in the parking lots will be on timers. The lights in the individual bays will be on for safety reasons but should not have a major effect on the area.
