Outdoor Diorama Teaches History

A study of World War II and the holocaust has turned into an outdoor history lesson for students at Rising Starr Middle School.

As part of their studies, eighth grade students on team 8B were required to work on a project that combined not only history but other subjects such as language arts, drama and art. Students had to choose to write poetry, perform in a drama, conduct research or create an outdoor diorama about the Holocaust.

They spent the last nine weeks of school completing an in-depth study of the Second World War era. During that time, they traveled to Charleston, S.C. and to the Atlanta Jewish History Museum as well as read the book "The Summer of My German Soldiers" to gain an additional understanding of events that were happening in Europe during 1939-1945.
